If tweet fails to load, click here. The NBA retired #6 league-wide in honor of Bill Russell after he passed

Stupid for an entire league to retire a number.

Really stupid for it to be Bill Russell.

I can't stand retiring numbers.

23 is next, pretty soon number on jerseys will be letters or symbols.

Bill Russell is one of the greatest ever and won more rings than anyone in the history of the sport. I think retiring the number league wide is a little overboard for any player, even MJ, but don't knock Bill Russell or his accomplishments. He's a legend.

Why can’t just the Celtics retire it ?
Posted on 9/30/25 at 8:49 pm to tigerfan84
Didn't even know he passed.

I read that post like 30 times and still can’t figure out what it’s trying to say.

Yeah, he only won 11 NBA titles, plus he was born in God’s country.

There wasn’t very many teams back in the day. It is a completely different sport.

It’s widely known that Kyle Korver was actually the greatest/most influential Civil Rights activist in NBA history and Bill Russell noted this on several occasions.

Holy sarcasm

retiring numbers is very short sighted. Yankees hardly have enough numbers to issue in spring training

Screw Bill Russell and his average or like 6 points a game.
Retire it for the legendary DR J!!!
