Good!!!! The federal government is a totally corrupt and dysfunctional system and should be shut down.
Oh, and only non essential parts of the government will be shut down???????

fricking good! Great! Now, we're FINALLY getting somewhere!!!! Do folks in DC actually think the average American taxpayer cares whether they receive a paycheck????

We need a government shutdown.

One word to remember: rescissions.

Y’all notice they have been giving JD way more speaking time lately compared to Trump?

I love it.. he is the best communicator we have.

I am still amazed that paying our military is not considered essential.

That needs to change yesterday.

I care because believe it or not some of us have families to take care of. Not getting a check will be tough on most of us until we get our back pay.

I’m a federal employee, these shut downs are nothing more than political theater. If you don’t have money saved up enough to miss a couple of paychecks, check with your bank. Most banks that have a lot of federal employees offer 0% interest short term loans. It’s part of the risk of being a federal employee so I’d recommend setting up a rainy day fund so you can miss a paycheck or two

No it won't. We still have to pay taxes, right?

Government has NEVER shut down. I fricking hate the dumbing down of society through the destruction of the language.

I'm assuming my taxes pay your salary.
Sorry bud, still no fricks given!! I've had to fight and bust my arse for every penny I've ever earned. Nobody cried or gave two shits about it.
My advice for you is to suck it up buttercup! Do what ya gotta do! Go earn your living and stop depending on other folks money.

I'm just a lowly correctional officer so I know plenty about busting my arse to earn a living. I deal with mental health unit so it's not easy like most gov jobs

What's holding up the congressional republicans from sending a bill to the senate republicans, since they have the majority? I've got to be missing something correct?

This is an extremely simplistic view of the issue at hand.

I don’t think republicans should blink, but to suggest that all government workers aren’t earning every penny they make is wild. Plenty of government jobs require more hours than a lot of private sector careers and have much more risk and time away from family.

my question is why has congress been on so many recesses this summer (house still out until next week) with no budget passed.

Congress should have to pass a budget before doing anything else and no days off (including weekends) until it is done.

I am an “average American taxpayer. “ My wife is an “essential” Federal employee. If they shut down the government, she will continue to work without pay until the politicians finish their pissing contest. It won’t negatively affect our family unless it drags out for a long time, but I can see how it could cause immediate problems for other families. I’m as MAGA as they come, but this idea that all Federal employees are leeches on society is ridiculous.

I believe that it ought to be incredibly hard for anybody to get into the US and anybody that comes here should have to prove that they have the means to support themselves and anybody else they bring here. I definitely don’t support giving a dime of taxpayer money to ANYONE who is here illegally. For that matter, I think they give far too much of my money to people who are too sorry to work. But just because someone gets a paycheck from the “government” doesn’t mean that they are the enemy or that they don’t deserve the salary that they earn.

Approximately 33% of federal government workers are targeted for permanent firing through Reduction-in-Force (RIF) procedures if a shutdown occurs, based on the Trump administration's directive to focus on non-essential employees who would typically be furloughed in a shutdown. There are roughly 2.1-2.3 million federal employees so this would translate into around 700,000 permanent federal layoffs. This is in addition to the 230k who took the Trump buy-out package which hits tomorrow, were fired, or left office since Jan. 2025.
