It used to mean something when the best European players actually played in Europe. Until the mid-90s guys like Seve and Bernhard and Faldo actually played the majority of golf in Europe save the Masters and US Open. There was a real debate on what the best tour is and who are the best players.

Now it’s just 24 guys who live in Jupiter Florida who all play together every week going out in front of drunk trashy fans. I haven’t been into the last few and this one really solidified it with me. The “drama” just seems so manufactured. JT or Rory can’t be all fired up like they hate the other team then go play at Bears Club with each other next week.

I’ll still watch I guess because match play is fun, but it’s lost its luster as a true rivalry event. It’s more of a contrived hit and giggle than anything at this point

well you are like the rest of us. Just bitter that we got our asses kicked regardless of the final score. Ryder cup is fun, and yes all the players live in florida, but that's so they can live in a warm climate and play/practice all year long. The dual citizenship is just a formality.

Yeah, they let the fans get out of hand - they literally invited it and begged for it to be this way - doesn't it seem that way. It really went too far. Which is a shame because I love the intensity of the format.

I thought about this too, and I watched like less than an hour of the Ryder Cup combined this year.

It’s just not as interesting. IMO it’s because of the post LIV split.

In reality I’d now be much more interested in a Ryder Cup that is Team PGA vs Team LIV than USA vs Europe

The US Ryder Cup fans have been the trashiest fans (outside of Eagles fans of course) for a long time. I pull for the US obviously but Euro Ryder Cups are more enjoyable to watch because on average it's much less fan drama.

That being said, Rory continuously taunted the fans back. When you start dishing it out to Ryder Cup fans there is no going back.

I legit can't stand Rory but he showed up and showed out this week even with the wild crowd, props to him. And I hate giving him props

I just looked and it is actually only 5/12 euros that live in Florida

But Straka has a South Georgia accent, and Rahm has lived in Arizona for like 15 years now.

Fleetwood lives in Dubai. Rose actually does live in England and Hojgaard is Denmark, but the entire team plays on American based tours. There’s just no juice unless you’re into the trash fans

Maybe you would, but I feel very confident that the ratings will disagree with you here.

I don’t know, a full PGA Tour v LIV would be pretty exciting. No one gives a shite about the made for tv hit and giggles at the Wynn the day after thanksgiving, but a 3 day match play event between the 2 tours would be pretty epic

If you want to argue having that instead of the Presidents’ Cup I’d listen to that argument. Having it over the Ryder Cup makes zero sense, especially when there are like 5 legitimately good LIV players.

It clearly still means a lot to the players on both sides, as they could barely talk without tearing up when it was over.

Would be nice to get the Euro trash off the broadcast, though. They were truly insufferable. And went out of their way to claim these guys flew over here to play golf in an unfamiliar land

I still like it.

I'm sure Mingo is largely right

But in the aggregate, the 90 minutes or so where the US was really making Europe sweat yesterday was some of the best TV sport I've seen this year.

I thought McGinley was good. I don’t like that NBC told him to intentionally be partisan though. Even dumber considering it was Nick Faldo (6 majors and 11 Ryder Cup Appearances plus 1 captaincy) vs. Notah Begay (0 majors and Ryder Cup appearances) and McGinley (3 Ryder Cup appearances and 1 captaincy) vs. Faxon (2 Ryder Cup appearances). Even worse considering McGinley is still involved with the Euro strategy and Faxon works with some Euros on their putting so he’s not as critical of them as McGinley was of Americans.

I think that it was expected and Europe has every right to complain about it, after the fact.

The constant whining during the event from US media was just exhausting. It was like every shot of Rory and Shane they were repeating the same talking points over and over again. They gave the hecklers the attention they wanted and made the broadcast a billion times worse.

Rory relocated to Wentworth after the US Open. He has pivoted his allegiance to the Euro/DP tour after being the sacrificial lamb.

But I do agree with your point.
