…I’m still dumbfounded as to Hank never being onto Walt after Gale was shot.

Walt hinted at a bigger player at the dinner to Hank, things were really awkward when Walt drove him around as well. Putting all the connections to things missing from the school, Walt’s newfound ‘gambling’ fortune, a big chemist at hand, and the hesitation of Walt to help.

Hank was smarter than to never question Walt. Also, the show could’ve easily ended at the destruction of the lab and Gus being killed.

Almost like all fiction has plot holes.

When you put yourself in Hank's position and determine what he actually knew, it's actually extremely realistic that he'd miss the connection.

Hank interpreted the 'bigger player' as Gus Fring and subsequently Madrigal and that appeared to be correct because they had the means, resources and ability to run an operation like that.

People irl don't just suspect betacuck family members of being involved in global drug trafficking. That would be dismissed as absolute schizo behavior if it actually happened.

things missing from the school: meh, they pinned that one on the indian janitor or it could have been kids stealing stuff for bongs.

Walt’s newfound ‘gambling’ fortune: this one is suspicious but Walt was good with numbers.

a big chemist at hand: he was a high school chemistry teacher.

I think Hank was blinded by his family ties and Walt's poor health.

you say this becuase we're viewers and have all the info. In real life it would be perfectly plausible for Hank to not suspect Walt since verything is pretty easily explainable like the guy above me did.

I still say the biggest miss was making Walt Jr. so 2 dimensional.

People love to glorify Walt as some drug kingpin but he was not. He was the guy making the meth, that's it. I know it was the purest ever made, but that still doesn't make him some top target. It was always about the racket, not the product.

It's such a quality plot point to know that all Walt had to do was keep his mouth shut at dinner, but his ego was so big, he couldn't.

That’s the primary element IMO - Hank had such disregard and disrespect of Walt that he could not even make the connection to him doing something so wild for so long.

The "Hank" character was a lovable and a devoted family man but not the "sharpest tool in the shed" so to speak. You see that with many of the interactions with his co-workers.
Also, not cynical enough regarding family and friends to notice.
We all have a Walter White in our family somewhere. Think about it, Would you ever suspect them?

I swear I went to high school with about 4 different guys that were exactly like Hank.

...and I believe 2 of them went on to become cops.

Im on S4 of another rewatch now.

Jesse Pinkman is even worse than I remember. He sucks.

Mike is the man.

Victor had few words but was great. He got a raw deal.

I forgot about Marie stealing.

Skinny Pete and Badger trying to sell at AA meetings but then joining the program. Haha.

Fantastic show.

I have always heard everyone talk about how great this show is. I have tried 3 times to watch it. First two times couldn’t make it past episode 2. Lots of friends told me to give it a few more so third time I forced myself to watch thru the end of episode 5. Just don’t get the hype. Not sure why i can’t get into it but I just can’t.

I just finished watching it for the first time. Like you it took a few starts/stops, but the show really took off once Saul, Gus, and Mike came on board.

I don't watch a shite ton of TV, but this is definitely up with the best in terms of attention to detail and foreshadowing.

Everything bad ever said on her about Skyler holds up. She's the worst.

I give Hank more credit, his intuition was generally right. He just always knew Walt as a beta bitch chemistry teacher so never considered that "Heisenberg" was this Jabroni he's known for years. Hank was spot on about Gus.

Hank also summed up the whole series the best, "You're the smartest guy I ever met... and you're too stupid to see... he made up his mind ten minutes ago."

I did a rewatch last week for about the 5th time. It's rewatchable show. The shootout with the cousins is about the best 4 minutes in tv history

I guess next is another rewatch of BCS

Btw, the BB movie sucked

Bc Walt was family, so a natural wool over the eyes, plus although he thought Walt was smart as shite, he considered him a bumbling idiot with no real world smarts.

Per Walt, he was building an empire.
