He was pretty damn great but wouldn’t take him over Jerry Rice or Randy Moss.

It’s easy to overlook him now given his mental breakdown at the end of his career, but I think he’s easily top 5 of all time.
And he would have broken the single season receiving record in 2015 if Ben didn’t miss 4 games.

The best in the league for a 4-5 year stretch

Played in different pass era. Imagine Rice or prime Moss with rules now.

He was the best in the league for a 4-5 year stretch.
Every other WR in the league played under the same rules (in that era) and he was better than they were.

Meh, Roethlisberger averaged 300 passing yards per game during that stretch. This should be broken down by % of teams yards/receptions/TDs. Also Julio Jones averaged more receptions, yards per game and yards per catch during this same stretch(2013-2018)

He was basically as good as Julian Edelman in the slot, but also as good as Tyreek Hill deep.
He was a monster.
BTW, go take a look at the 2012 and 2013 Steelers Roster. You wanna talk about a waste of talent by Mike Tomlin, holy shite...
2012 - BIG Ben, AB, Emmanuel Sanders, Mike Wallace Plaxico Burress
2013 - Big Ben, AB, Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders & LeVeon Bell... All in their primes.

During that span:
Brown - targetted 1026 times (wild)
Rice - targetted 929 times
Moss - targetted 901 times
(with the best catch% of the 3 over a 6 year span)
In 1990, top 10 completion% was anywhere from 57-63% while Rice's numbers were 64%.
In 2000, top 10 completion% was anywhere from 60-68% while Moss' numbers were 58%
In 2010, top 10 completion% was anywhere from 64-70% while Brown's numbers were 67%
So he wasn't just volume alone. his stretch is freaking wild.
You could actually put Julio up there too:
623 receptions, 9388 yards, 37 TDs
That being said, 6 year stretch is a 6 year stretch.
Rice's fricking 11 year stretch:
1001 receptions, 15450 yards, 151 TDs
Brown's 12 year CAREER:
928 receptions, 12291 yards, 83 TDs
Moss' 14 year CAREER:
982 receptions, 15292 yards, 156 TDs
Rice is ridiculous man...

Incredible player. Rice is one of if not the best player of all time. Certainly the best WR and it’s really not even close.
His aunt was my babysitter growing up CSB

Brown played in 12 seasons, but only 146 games.
Moss : 14 seasons, 218 games
Moss : 14 seasons, 218 games

What would Rice or Moss numbers look like in the "modern" era of a pass happy offense?
Posted on 9/27/25 at 1:39 am to boomjosh
Jerry Rice peak is 86-95 and no one beat that 10 year stretch.

All I know is that I really miss the old NFL number rules. Antonio Brown, TO, Randy Moss etc wearing number eighty something is the way it should be. I hate WRs and DBs wearing number 0 or any single digit number in the NFL.
