Subtle, "I was rich enough to have my own truck in high school" brag.

There was a big oak tree out on the outer edge of a huge parking lot called the smoking tree.

All the smokers gathered up every morning under it to puff their lives away.

And we carried guns and never locked our vehicles or house

I didn't even have a key to my parents house until I was 15 or so.

I can remember both. There was no air conditioning in schools back then. We used to take peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because they would keep in a hot locker.

I can mostly remember the ashtrays on the airplane's armrest and people actually smoking during a flight. Also, ashtrays at airports, cars and at coffee tables at home.

My school's policy was you had to be 16 and have a note from a parent stating it was ok for you to smoke. Only time allowed, was during lunch and the designated area was behind the visiting team's concession. My HS had about 1200 students, two lunch periods. There were maybe 8 that were out there smoking that I ever saw. Do not remember ever seeing a female smoker.

I graduated high school on 1992 and I don’t remember them. My mom and dad said they existed when they were in HS, graduated in the late 60s

CHS 79-84
the smoking area was behind the gym close to the parking lot. Most kids carried a pocket knife every day and a shotgun in the rear window rack was common…we would leave for the day and go straight to the woods to squirrel hunt

BTW nobody I knew carried or even owned a handgun. I don’t think I even ever shot a handgun until after I graduated college, it just wasn’t a thing. You either had a 22 rifle or a shotgun

I’m a bit too young for the bull room, but we did have designated areas to dip when I was in school. Smoking wasn’t allowed, but dipping or chew was.

seems we have this exact thread pretty regularly now.

And yes, I'm old enough to remember both. Also remember the teachers lounge looking and smelling like a lounge at 2am cause all the teachers were burning heaters inside.
