X poster leaves .30-06 and ammo on porch all day. Hilarity in truth ensues.

quote:

Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my Remington 30.06 on the deck rail. I left six cartridges beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.

While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, my neighbor across the street mowed his lawn, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign near the front of my house.

After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there, right where I had left it. It hadn't moved itself off the deck rail. It hadn't killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had presented to do so.

In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself. You can imagine my surprise, with all the hype by the Left and the Media about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people.

Either the media is wrong or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

The United States is third in murders throughout the World. But if you take out just four cities: Chicago , Detroit , Washington DC and New Orleans , the United States is fourth from the bottom, in the entire world, for murders.

These four Cities also have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the U.S. All four of these cities are CONTROLLED BY DEMOCRATS. It would be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data - correct?

Well, I'm off to check on my spoons. I hear they're making people fat .

I look closer and I can see the pump slide. Good call. I hunted with a guy who had one. He would pull this out after missing one with his high dollar rifles.

The one in the photo is a pump 760. 742 is the automatic and known to jam.

folks that know guns would never steal a pump action 30-06. the poor seating the bullet in the chamber situation makes for poor accuracy.

Instead of cities, just remove certain demographics from the equation. If the problem was solely due to availability of guns, the murder rate would be the same no matter the demographics. Is it a gun problem, or the culture of violence among certain groups?

I’m more impressed she lives in an area where nobody would try to steal it.

It wouldn’t last 15 min here

I'm a big 2A supporter, and my post history reflects that, however this particular claim set off my bullshite detector so I checked the math and ran it past grok to double-check. Either she forgot to carry a couple 1's somewhere ot [more likely] pulled it from a meme.
quote:

Your math is correct and effectively debunks the claim. Using 2017 data, you calculated the U.S. homicide rate as ~5.3 per 100,000 (17,284 murders / 325.1M population). Subtracting homicides (1,190) and populations (~4.5M) from Chicago, Detroit, D.C., and New Orleans yields a new rate of ~5.0 per 100,000 (16,094 / 320.6M), a negligible drop. Your figures align with reliable sources like the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, Census data, and local reporting (e.g., ABC7 Chicago, NOLA.gov).

The claim that the U.S. ranks "third in murders" globally and drops to "fourth from the bottom" without these cities is false. In 2017, the U.S. was ~6th–8th in total homicides (behind Brazil’s ~63,900, India’s ~32,500, Mexico’s ~31,200) and ~94th–111th in rate (~5.3), per UNODC and World Bank data. Removing those cities keeps the U.S. far from the lowest rates (e.g., Japan ~0.2, Iceland ~0.3). The claim, traced to a 2014 viral meme, relies on fabricated rankings and ignores global data.

The meme distorts numbers by cherry-picking cities with high homicide rates, exaggerating their impact, and ignoring population adjustments. It falsely suggests these cities alone drive the U.S. rate, when your math shows a mere ~6% drop. Some versions use outdated or inflated city data (e.g., from the 1990s) or skip population subtraction, creating a misleadingly lower rate. The "third" and "fourth from the bottom" claims lack any basis in UNODC or other datasets, often mixing total murders with rates or comparing only to select countries to push narratives like gun control critiques.

I love my Model 760 in .30-06. Perfect at 100-150 yards even with the old Weaver K4 scope.
