My Visit to Saxony Lutheran High School

I received a telephone call from Saxony Lutheran High School. My main contact asked if he could pay me a visit me. I told him that I had an upcoming doctor appointment in Cape Girardeau and it would probably be easier for me to drop by to see him. I thought I knew where this was leading but was not sure. I was afraid that maybe they wanted to revoke my kid's diploma.
SLHS is only about 25 years-old and very nice. This afternoon I dropped in for the meeting. We did the small talk and then I got to tour their new agriculture eduction building and football facilities. They were both top notch.
An SLHS education in basic agriculture is probably second to none. Those German farmers from Perry and northern Cape Girardeau Counties could probably figure out how to raise cotton in Canada.
Their football team is also rocking and rolling. Last year they started with a junior varsity team and went 8-0. Thus far this year their varsity team is 2-1. In two weeks SLHS will play my old high school and my friend asked me which team I will cheer for. I told him that although I used to play football myself I have always supported my children first so he will just have to guess.
SLHS has grown exponentially over the years. They are at a record high enrollment and have a record number of freshmen. Another freshman class this size next year and SLHS will have to turn kids away and nobody wants to see that happen.
We finally got to the reason for the visit. They need to expand their facilities. They are currently debt free and would like to keep it that way so money is needed. I make charitable contributions mostly to small organizations because I like to send the money to where it will do the most good. So, naturally I made a pledge to support the effort.
Everyone who knows me is aware that I am a Catholic and never even knew a Lutheran before my daughter went to SLHS. However, I will be the first to say that the members of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod are good people. They are also probably the most conservative of however many denominations of Lutherans there are.
They have a good thing going on at SLHS and I would like to see them continue to succeed.
Go Crusaders!

They are up there with WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) as the most conservative protestant churchs.

Why did you not send your daughter to Notre Dame in Cape?

As a member of the conservative Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod I would like to state that we are not responsible for whatever the liberal ELCA brothers are up to nowadays.

It definitely feels like we need to qualify "I'm Lutheran" with "...but not ELCA" in recent years.

That’s my neck of the woods. I had the opportunity to go when it first opened. I believe I would have been the first senior class had I gone
