Anyone ever have a friend ask for money and you have to turn them down?

Kinda torn here. Im doing well for myself and I have a friend who is close to losing his apartment in Lincoln and needs about $5000 to not go into eviction. Part of me wants to load him the cash but I also know that he owes money to several creditors as well and I cant see him paying me back more than a couple hundred.
I just don't know how I can let him down easy.

This is why I don’t have friends

Yes, and from experience, if you loan him that money, you will never see that money again.

No, but I had a friend ask for money and I loaned him $4k. He didn’t pay me back so I went take his badass golf cart.

Depends on what that $5k is in % to your cash savings.

If you give money to friends or family just consider it a donation and not a loan, you will be the last person paid back by someone that obviously doesn't know how to manage finances.

This is why I don’t flaunt our wealth and pretend to be poor

Basically if you can live without ever getting the money back then give it to them, if not dont do it, consider it a gift not a loan.

Yes.
Outside of $20 here or there I don't typically loan money to friends.

I typically tell them, "It's not you. I've been burned before so I just don't loan money to any friends."

My policy on this with friends is I’ll “give” you an amount that I never have to think about and won’t come between our friendship. It may not be as much as you want or need but it is a gift and not a loan.

Yes. He got himself in trouble gambling and I knew I’d never see it again as he’d probably use it to chase his losses. I told him no.

Got specs on his wife/girlfriend?

Only lend money to a friend if you can afford to write it off if he cannot pay.

You don't give people money thinking you're going to get it back.
Either give this person the money because you want to or don't.

If you have 5k to burn do it, you’ll never see it or him again.

If you want an exfriend, gift him the money because that's basically what you'll be doing. I know, I did it twice. Guess I'm a slow learner. Haven't seen a dime in over 10 years from either.

Happened to me for the same reason. I said no and we're still friends.

Give him the money if you want to but don't ever expect repayment.
