Remember when JD wasn't throwing down the field?

Remember in JD's first season it seemed like he wasn't throwing the ball down the field at all. It seems like BK wanted to protect against "losing" games as opposed to getting beaten.
He, Kelly, knew going into 2023 that he didn't have the defense to win games so he just went wide open offensively.
I think he's managing the game to win, not look pretty. I know that sounds elementary, but he's purposely leaning on the defense. He has a formula for managing games when he has all three facets of football. Just win the game.

He has done that 316 times. I think he knows more than the people who post here

I do remember that, but it wasn’t Kelly stopping him. Kelly was trying to get Jayden to take some chances. He said that we don’t want a lot of interceptions but there is such a thing as too few.

I just dont understand the logic between having a great defense and having to be conservative on offense. I can understand punting in situations where you would maybe go for it like what Kelly said happened in the Florida game but theres no reason to not be aggressive and try to score every possession.
Eventually there's going to be games where the other team scores on us and we are going go need to score in the 30's to win. We cant just all of a sudden flip the switch and do things on offense we haven't done all year so we need to start doing it now.

Yea the way it sounds like Kelly is wanting to do, that practically makes it impossible for LSU to be great on both sides of the ball in the same year. I mean it sounds like every year Kelly thinks he has great defense he’s just going to intentionally put a chokehold on the offense to where they will just look average at best no matter how much talent there is. That’s quite a shitty way of doing things to me.

Exactly. --there's a difference between not taking chances and executing an offense. Pulling back isn’t just ‘less risk'. It’s handcuffing an offense with playmaker everywhere. LSU’s at 20 points a game, 84th in yards, scraping by with 5.26 yards per play. That’s not strategy. That's execution failing. You don’t throttle scoring because the D’s elite, you fix the O and let it rip. We barely beat Florida by 10, saved by five picks. That’s not coaching smarts. That's dodging a bullet.
Why choke the offense when we’re barely outgaining Louisiana Tech?

Lmao what. You think Jayden wasn’t throwing the ball downfield because BK was telling him not to?

Stop with some of this dumb shite. All you need to do is look at Nuss’ throws last season and this. He isn’t driving the ball and he isn’t able to make some of the throws. He has been injured. Richard Dickson said you can see it all season with how he is moving his hips and reads that has demonstrated. Kelly isnt doing anything but protecting him from getting hurt worse.
What you dumbasses should be discussing is why the Oline has such poor technique in run blocking especially RT and TE.

If that’s the case then he has no business playing against Southeastern

More autonomy is a MAJOR reason Denbrock left LSU. BK has had his mittens on the offense since arriving at LSU and is a major factor in him wanting a weak OC and a major deterrent he will face to find a replacement for Sloan if/when that day comes.

Good gosh do you really not understanding what OP is trying to say?
"This place just isn't what it used to be."
"Are you saying you hope everyone dies and it burns to the ground?"

Cool. Still ended up losing three games with the second most prolific offense in LSU history.

That was all on JD. His hesitancy I believe came from throwing as many pics as TDs the prior season at ASU. In the UT game BK was chewing out JD on the sideline because he would not throw deep.
He started out 24 that way until Nabers chewed him out early in the season. That story came from JD’s own mouth. JD quoted Malik… “if it looks like I am not open I am open!”

The entire point of suiting up and stepping onto the field is to WIN!
Whatever that takes.
It's not a video game.
I wish our political leaders understood that when it comes to war.

To be fair the main reason for that was Kelly was trying to fix his throwing motion and his mechanics. That wasn't due to Kelly trying to protect anything. Nor were those the play calls. There were always receivers running routes down field he just wasn't taking them. And early on when he was he was missing the throw. Go and watch the Mississippi State game from '22. You will see 2 or 3 times when Kelly is correcting his mechanics.
Kelly wants to be able to run the ball, control the clock, play good defense and take efficient deep shots down the field. We have a few things to work out but I can promise you this is not what he wants. There are a few easy fixes that will have a more consistent approach in the run game which will allow the passing game to open up but no he doesn't want the game to be ugly. He loves having a defense and special teams unit that are effective but don't think this is what he wants.

BK is deflecting.. The offense isn’t performing and there’s no way that was the game plan.. You can run a conservative offense and still be successful. Our offense just can’t execute. Period.
