Honestly don't care.

Maybe he would have just been an average qb elsewhere and wouldn't have done much more worth a shite.

At least he is beloved here as a Saint cause he was the shiniest turd for a long time.

Maybe Maybe Maybe.

Some of the other top QBs of the era were Bradshaw, Staubach, Stabler, Fouts, and (until injury) Bert Jones. I see no reason why Archie could not have had similar success.

Even with bad to so-so talent around him, Archie was (according to two major sources) NFC Player of the Year in 1978. This means he beat out Staubach (who won two titles and lost in the Super Bowl that year), with Bradshaw from the AFC winning overall MVP and the Super Bowl. You put him on teams with similar talent, and I think he achieves similar results. Whether that’s deep playoff runs (Fouts), a Super Bowl (Stabler), or multiple titles (Staubach, Bradshaw), it’s hard to say. But he was recognized even at the time as being very good.

Let me change your question up a bit.

How would Archie Manning's career have gone if John Mecom Jr didn't own the Saints??

Mecom was the worst owner in the NFL, probably worse than Gayle now.

He was a spoiled kid whose daddy bought him a toy to play with as a 26 y/o.

If he were in Pittsburg? Sure.

Bradshaw wasn't a special QB.

Kind of my point. He was dumb as a box of rocks. I think Archie would have had a much better career with another team.

Side note: my high school English teacher was Bradshaws tutor in college.

Probably the same. Sure the Saints were a cluster, but people need to stop saying that it was the only reason Archie didn't win jack in the NFL. He may have simply not been a great QB. He didn't do much after leaving the Saints either.

Go look at his INT numbers when he was on the better Saints teams in late 70’s and you have your answer. Not the Cowboys, Steelers, Raider, Vikings etc teams of that era but the best of what he played with. How he gets expected from ANY cause of the poor Saints teams is beyond me. He was sacked more than anyone but threw more INTs than anyone as well. He was what he was as a pro, below average. Great representative of the franchise and by all accounts a good man but you are what the numbers say you are like Bill Parcels said.

Probably would have had the same career as one of his other sons - Eli. Eli made plays when he needed to, but his supporting team got him Superbowls.

Easily a HOF candidate w right team. Was a supremely talented athlete with a very strong mind.

I just watched a documentary recently with historic footage covering his draft from Ole Miss and his play with the Saints. The guy was a great athlete and fine teammate. He had very little help, but he never spoke badly of his experience. He rightfully praised Galbreath and Muncie. I think he would have been a huge star on a talented team. That seems to be the consensus of his teammates and people who covered the NFL at the time.

Bradshaw was pretty damned good. I watched him in college through the pros. He had a great arm and was very tough…
