The real problem with Kelly's response to Cauble

Brian Kelly is the head coach, and as head coach of the program, he has a right to be pissed at any question during a press conference. He doesn't need to apologize. I think we can all agree on that. He knows the offense is horrid this year - whether that's due to allowing Nuss to regress or Nuss secretly still being injured - and he knows the offense (after having nothing but elite offenses at LSU since he's been here) is what's going to prevent us from winning it all this year so he has a right to be pissed about that.
The problem I have, personally, with his response to Cauble is that the question Cauble asked is what EVERY fan is asking as well. So Kelly's response to Cauble was his response to every fan, and that's what's insulting about it. It was tone deaf as it relates to the fanbase. The whole fanbase sees the problem and is asking the same questions about the offense so while Kelly would almost 100% ignore the question if confronted by a fan on the streets, if he were to answer a fan, it's painfully obvious that's how he'd have responded.
Personally, I took it as a lack of respect for the fanbase and to me, that's the real problem with his response. He's perfectly within his right to be pissed at it, but when it relates to a problem so incredibly obvious to the fanbase, it felt like he was responding to us and not to Cauble.

It’s not always about you

Dude y’all are over analyzing this. This happened right after the game with emotions high like always, good or bad. Kelly knows the offense sucks and is more frustrated than the fans.

Kelly would tell you he's just having his guys back.
He is there to coach and is part of the team. Part of that is us against everyone "against us". He is not there to give fair and balanced analysis.
He knows he has a problem but will work inside...not in the media.
His grumpy old guy will manifest from time to time

I agree with your perspective. However, what Coach Kelly has a right to be PO’d about is that it was the lead question after a big win. It’s a very valid question, but could have waited until he first addressed positive questions after a huge win about our D and special teams play that won’t the game for us.

I think it was more of a "I'm going to stand up and defend my players" response. BK has always been bad with the media, so the response came across poorly.
Frankly, I don't really give a damn about his response...As long as the glaring issues on the field get fixed. But you can't grandstand/belittle people then not address the areas of concern they are rightly observing.

Kelly was out of line on this one. He needs to be asking the exact same question.

The question was fair, and I don’t really have a problem with the response either. I have no doubt BK knows we can’t reach the playoff with this schedule unless the offense improves. But, we also got a gritty win against a desperate rival so he wants to make sure everyone appreciates it.

Can we stop with this stupid shite? Maybe, just maybe Nuss is just not a Heisman level QB.

Dude got a big win and chose to protect his players in a press conference.
That's it. That's all that happened.
Why are we still talking about this?

He doesn’t really owe us an explanation. It’s probably smart not to roast your offense in front of the world

If that’s really what you think, you are too stupid for words.
He’s said multiple times the last couple of weeks, we have to coach better and we have to play better.
WTF do you think he’s talking about? Baker and the defense????
Of course not. He’s taking about Sloan and the offense. Just because he doesn’t call them out by name publicly doesn’t mean he’s ok with the production.
He even said that after the tech game.

I couldn't agree more with this. If the question was the 5th question asked, I see the response being completely different. Its negative and is in bad taste to ask a coach a lead question about the crappy offense after a big W.

As time has gone on and weekend past- It was the right question at the wrong time and the question would have pissed off most reasonable people.
But yes Kelly was talking to all of us and the whole thing was insulting, from him calling us spoiled to insulting our intelligence about being able to run the football.

We have taken a response, and turned it into a disrespectful statement toward individual fans. I think that’s a bit over the top.

I don't need my HC to be eloquent in a postgame press conference. Sure, it'd be nice, I just don't care.
