Many people need to think that bad things will happen to bad people. Many times that isn’t the case. In most instances the bad offenders in prison live for years or decades at the taxpayer’s expense with meals, climate controlled spaces, and medical care.

Wishcasting that something bad happens to an inmate is a person not being able to accept reality. And it is insulting to the professionalism of law enforcement employees working in the prison systems.

It's freaking retarded to think that convicted criminals are some kind of folk hero dispensing righteous justice behind bars using rape as their primary tool.

I have only traveled through there on my way to Kansas. Great roads with an 80 MPH speed limit.

Friend who used to be a guard at a prison and one of our employees who has done hard time say otherwise. Both have said the inmates know right off the bat if you are there for molestation, rape, murder, etc and you will get what's coming for you.

Prison in and of itself should be the punishment. Hard labor, no TV, bland food. Encouraging crime to happen in a building run by our government where they send people for breaking the laws of our government doesn’t say much about our society.

It’s crazy that people think that the big manly guy in prison would have sex with a man. It’s another Hollywood lie to normalize weird stuff

Not sure if you meant someone offing someone else in prison, or prison conditions of Bubba the bunk mate.

But just the general idea that people readily accept the thought that people that go to prison are going to get raped and that’s not really questioned is pretty far out there.

And I’m not talking about certain crimes or criminals, but just the whole situation.

Agreed. Prison is no longer the deterrent it once was. People need to be scared to go to prison in order for it to be effective. Hard labor is not cruel or unusual. Not saying prisoners need to be tortured (this one does), but the 3 hots and a cot isn't cutting it.

You know what says even less? The fact that our prisons are so easy on criminals that they aren’t a deterrent to crime. Many criminals find prison better than the street. Bland food? BFD. Should work the inmates to death old French Guyana style.

Okay, here goes.

I am personally fascinated by things that happen in our society that seem to continue happening due to their own momentum without people really asking ‘Why are we doing that?’ This is just the latest example. I geek out on getting to the ‘Why’ of things that we just all assume or take for granted.

In this instance, people say things like in the OP without taking the time to think about why they are doing it (or they don’t want to think about it too hard).

Plus, tells like this can give you insight into the mind of a person who (whom?) you are dealing with.
