Polly Holliday, the actor who became beloved for her iconic "Kiss my grits!" catchphrase as Flo the waitress on Alice, has died. She was 88. Holliday died on Tuesday in her Manhattan home, her agent Dennis Aspland told The New York Times.

Alice was such a great show. And an interesting background as it was based on a Martin Scorsese movie, in which Vic Tayback originated the role of Mel Sharples

Like many of the older sitcoms, the entire main cast is now dead. Polly Holliday was the last.

not going to lie, if you had told me to guess how old that actress would be today, I would have aimed higher than 88

I had no idea Philip McKeon had died and he was only 55 years old.

yeah and Linda Lavin died last year. Speaking of, her acting credits are insane. She was a remarkable talent

One of the few American TV shows we had access to when I lived in Dubai in the late 70s

I didn't realize it ran for 9 seasons

What a fun show.

When I saw Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore a couple years ago, it was hard to comprehend that a fun sitcom was based on that movie.

I think Vic Tayback (Mel) was the only cast member in both the movie and the sitcom.

It may be the most different movie vs. sitcom based on it in history. Totally different.

Alice was one of those shows that was on the air forever that I could never figure out how. I have never watched a single moment and have never known anyone in my family or social circle who did.

Florence Jean Castleberry busting Moe Sharples chops on prime time seventies tv was great.

Not sure I've ever had a real life conversation w/ anyone about it, but in the days of turning the knob to see what was on and what was coming in clear...sometimes you just stopped on whatever was funny and not news.

I think there also might be some tie-in with the trucker movie thread. Life at a truck stop? We're seeing the other side!

ETA: well not exactly truck stop, but highway/truckstop diner was the premise, I think.
