They were on that road when Giuliani took the helm and began to clean things up in 1993. But the last two Mayors have put them on a road where the next Mayor plans on hitting the gas and pushing the Nitro button,

Real estate prices are artificially stable in NYC because of limited stock due to government regulation and things like price controls and the work of a lot of companies need them to be, They manipulate it due to assets owned or money others owe them on assets. It could collapse quicker than T-Bob when he gets home from work.

A CoStar report that echoed a Bloomberg report estimated over 370 U.S. investment firms relocated since 2020. By 2027, Goldman Sachs expectst to have the bulk of their employees in Dallas.

Deficits are expected to approach 20 billion a year annually in the next few years.

And they have a Mayor that wants to destroy all positive in the city and encourage all that is negative.

If Mamdami is elected I could see things like the NYSE plan relocations by the end of his first term.

I wouldn't say this or that city is more likely to become a prison substitute, but a large scale area that society builds as a "you're on your own" type of prison will happen at some point in the future. The numbers and cost simply require it.

But you edgy folks that think it's happening in NYC sometime in your lifetime are just stupid.

Basically NYC will go back to what it was in the 70s…

“Until you’ve seen this trash can’s dream come true…”

A 1972 Elton John song lyric describing NYC.

Manhattan wont. parts of NYC might but upper east/west sides south through mid town through financial district all the way down to battery park will not at all.

harlem...maybe but the rest wont. now other parts of NYC...possibly.

and overall city will take a hit if they elect someone like the dumbass commie but in the end manhattan will be fine unless they get crazy with the taxes.

I think it would require an economic crisis, population shifts, high unemployment. All of that could definitely happen in any city to some degree if the wealthy leave or AI takes everyone’s jobs.

Either Escape From New York or the Jetsons.

Can you imagine the world and chaos down on the ground in the Jetsons after the “haves” just went up high?

I always admire the OT's knowledge of NYC and it's prescient and incisive perspective. It's no St. George or Walker where real city life happens.

Momdani is just the herald of the ultimate fate of the whole USA, IMHO. The whole USA is going to be Momdani-ized over time, IMHO.

The first step is to decide which boroughs are included. Then wall building begins.
