Trump administration officials predict staffing losses across the federal workforce will continue to grow. They expect 300,000 fewer employees by December.

That is a little surprising after reading the news about certain depts. Going to be a lot of job seekers hitting the market in the next few months

Not surprising to me. DoD has the most to lose, by far. Google says they have 750k civilian employees.

Whenever Powell leaves the Fed, the new chairman needs to add to the numbers. 23k plus headcount is ridiculous

I’d imagine the agriculture folks will have hardest time finding a similar job in private sector

Federal Government Growth (2021-2025)
January 2021: The federal workforce was approximately 2.89 million.
January 2025: The federal workforce grew to about 3.02 million employees.
This represents an increase of roughly 130,000 federal employees.

The gains of the last 4 years have been removed and then another 70k removed from that number
With Technology the number of federal employees should come down even more.

That’s because they’re all transferring to the DoW

RTO mandates are likely responsible for a lot of it. My aunt works in a different agency, but made the dumb decision to move over 100 miles from her office. My sister works for yet another different agency, and lives 20 miles from her job, but she also has a special needs kid that essentially needs constant care, so she's out once their RTO takes effect. And I don't have a problem with it.

my oldest daughter was one of the 130,000 to be hired since 2021. Still has her job although a lot of the older workers at her place took the early retirement route. got a bunch of kids running the show, now.

Those numbers are all liberals leaving. Good riddance. Additional by subtraction.

I think there will be another round of incentives to early retire coming after October.

I have to wonder if the impact of so many workers in/around DC getting laid off or taking early retirement is going to sway how the government thinks the economy is doing?

It's definitely impacting jobs numbers, but even removing the jobs lost from the FedGov from the recent monthly numbers doesn't make them not anemic. I think August was only +22k, but adding back in FedGov losses would only get you to +37k for August, which is still poor job growth.
