Happy Birthday Bert “The Ruston Rifle!”
Bill Belichick has seen all of them going back to Unitas, and he said Bert Jones was the best pure passer he ever saw. If he had stayed healthy he was a certain Hall of Famer.
Bert’s 74 years old today.
I use to help Bert with his Golf Tournament for Cystic Fibrosis. Did this for years.

Happy Birthday Bert.
At least you don’t have to share your birthday with Paul Lyons.
Poor ole Cholly Mac was scarred by losing qbs to injury.

I remember seeing him and Dr Tommy Casanova at games in the 1980’s. Just seated in the west lower bowl like a couple of normal guys.

He was the best I've ever seen. And for the times one of the biggest.

Tommy and brother Jackie, would often play in the Burt Jones Tournament.

Totally awesome quarterback. What he accomplished in just a little over two seasons is hard to describe in words. And he and his cousin Andy Hamilton were truly class acts.
I know we didn't win any championships in the Jones Era other than the 1970 SEC title, but it was a great time to be a Tiger and enjoy football in Tiger Stadium.

The #7.
He was the greatest QB in LSU history before Burrow and Daniels came along.

I sat next to him in a marketing class. Gosh that was a long time ago.

Young folks missed, perhaps, one of the top three quarterbacks in LSU history. He could do it all. Should have won the Heisman Trophy, but sharing quarterback duties limited his stats greatly. Happy birthday, Bert.

My sophomore year at LSU Bert sat behind me in a Fortran computer class. One morning Bert taps me on the shoulder and tells me I have a hole in the back of my shirt.I thanked Bert and said I hope you are as good in picking out holes in opposing defenses.

LSU 72 grad here.
I was at the LSU- Ole Miss game in 72. Words are hard to come by describing that final drive.
Years later after Bert Jones retired from the NFL, I met him at a dove hunt near Bernice, La. We talked about that game and the drive and he told me that was the most fun he had in his football career.

Damn you’re old.
You’re old enough to remember the 1969 team getting screwed out of the Cotton Bowl and refusing to play a lesser bowl. FU Notre Dame.
