I'm in the market for buying one, but I deep fry only a handful of times per year at most. I don't think I want to spend much on something that takes up space and sits most of the year, so looking for recommendations on budget friendly (thinking less than $80).

Or I can just help someone out, come pick one up in BTR, and pay a rehoming fee to someone who has one that just sits on the shelf and takes up space year after year

It will be used outside....

Got it. I'm Thinking like 8-10 speckled trout fillets and french fries or a couple lbs of shrimp is all I'd need, so I assume the smaller size would do the trick?

Just curious, why not fry in a Dutch oven on the stove top?

That's what I typically do, but the wife is not a fan of the house smelling like a fryer for a couple days. I don't have a high end vent so the smell just lingers.

So, you’re frying outside, I got thrown off with the countertop description. FIL as a fry daddy and seems to like it.

You’ll be happy with the one you ordered.

I had an expensive Delonghi that crapped out. Then I got a cheap model at Target that lasted longer. It was a PITA to clean, and it took up a good bit of space for something we use maybe three times a year.

Went with the largest size Fry Daddy. Plug it in. Done. No controls. Easy to clean, and doesn’t take a lot of space.

Get the large Fry Daddy called the Granpappy. It uses 48 oz of oil.

Those fry daddy's aren't worth a shite. They can't hold temperature if you're trying to fry anything more than a small handful of food.

A lodge cast iron Dutch oven is going to do a much better job at retaining heat.

Something like this

Except you missed the entire point that OP was trying to avoid the frying stink in the house. Yes, Lodge is awesome, but he's got a specific requirement. One of the cardinal rules of cooking is anything is to not crowd the pan. That applies to any appliance, too.

This is why you get a small propane burner for frying outside.

Really the best combination if you are frying fish/seafood

I’ve got more burners and pots than I know what to do with but I’d rather just plug in a countertop appliance that regulates and controls temp for frying a few fillets and shrimps.

I get it, but the hardest and most work is clean up honestly. I’ve had a couple fry daddies and I don’t really like that that much due to clean up. In regards to prep they are super easy, add oil and turn on. You aren’t wrong about that.

Yeah and agree. That’s my concern so I guess I’ll find out if that trade off is worth it….
