I'm looking for recommendations for a Thursday night to Sunday morning in Austin. I'm going with 3 of my friends and we are going mainly for the BBQ, but we are open to anything. We need a good sports bar as well for the LSU/Alabama game. Any help is great.

I think LSU fans go to Shoal Creek Salon or Rustic Tap to watch games

I would hit Leroy and Lewis, Interstellar, and La Barbecue.

I would watch the game at Shoal Creek Saloon.

Carve out time to go to Lockhart - 45 min from Austin - Kreuz, Blacks, Smitty's and Barbs are all legit.

That's a fun experience. We hit it on the way back from river tubing.

This.

Lockhart for sure.

Also, the best BBQ in the state is a little over an hour East of Austin in Lexington - Snow's.

Just ate at LeRoy and Lewis. Their sides are a step up from normal BBQ joints. Enjoyed the place. Line was 1.5 hours long. They have 1 server, 1 meat cutter and one cashier. That part sucked.

If you’re going to Austin for BBQ then I would say leave Austin immediately. Austin can be a good spot to stay to visit BBQ places but that’s about it. Lockhart, Dripping Springs and many other locations are for BBQ. There are some BBQ places in Austin but the majority of places to visit are more on the outskirts.

Austin has blown donkey penis for years. Such an over rated town.

Interesting take. Trying to be polite, this isn’t the OT board after all. Lots of awesome bbq in Austin. Dripping Springs is a wasteland for most things food related. Lots of great breweries or distilleries.

And, Salt Lick is a fine destination for an experience but great bbq is not one of those experiences. A long drive for a long wait with mediocre food.

OP when is your trip?
