We flew into Atlanta late Friday night and was staying 1/2 between Atlanta and Clemson. Walk up to the rental car counter and they weren’t honoring reservations completely out of cars, the person at the counter was extremely rude about it as well. We ended up ubering to the hotel (approx an hr) and luckily found a rental car near where we were staying.
Is there any point in fighting the rental car company over this? If nothing else, I’d like to be compensated for the uber ride.

Stay out of Georgia is the lesson here.

How much are you willing to spend to get the Uber ride money back?

Get on their social media pages and start writing about how horrible the experience was... they all have customer service people monitoring their social media. It's worked for me with a couple of companies including Hertz.

One of those times being a “Karen” and calling them out on Twitter/whatever other social media could be beneficial. Especially mentioning the rude counter person. It may not do anything but worst case you get a couple eye rolls and are in the same boat.

A rental car reservation today is not what a reasonable person would call a “reservation”. It is the opportunity to possibly get a rental car over the person who does not have a reservation.

This trend started about 15 years ago in the truck/van rental world and has infected the car rental industry.

tl/dr: No point in trying to recoup any damages from them, they’ve proven in court to not be generally responsible for this scenario.

Sorry that happened to you. Not an ideal way to start a trip/vacation...

My inclination is that the rental agreement/contract contains a stipulation/clause that the rental car is "subject to availability" and not guaranteed, although that is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me.

It might still be worth calling customer support to determine if they are willing to reimburse you for the uber.

Safe travels

Have to ask... how did you get to the game Saturday, being 100÷÷ miles away with no rental? What was that like?

We rent a car for vacations every year and I always use Enterprise. A few years ago we went in to get our rental and they couldn't find our reservation and didn't have anything on the lot that would work for us. It delayed our trip until the next morning. We got a car the next day and only charged us 2 days for a 5 day rental.

He has more of an argument if he prepaid it. Most rental car places don’t even let you prepay because they don’t guarantee you a rental.

I’ve had that happen a couple of times and I’m Avis Preferred. Very frustrating.

I guess you can pay in advance to avoid. Just hate doing that esp when flying as you never know what could happen.

We reserved a mid sized car once to drive to a baseball tournament, when we got to the place to pick it up they were out.

They gave us a jeep pickup with a soft top, it was basketball orange and a piece of crap. Any time we got over 50 mph the top would make so much noise you couldn’t talk.

I raised hell and was told to pound sand by AVIS.

Our hotel was about an hr from Atlanta in Braselton, when National couldn’t guarantee a car on Saturday morning, I made the decision to uber to our hotel and figure it out from there. I knew a lot of people going to the game, so I figured if worst came to worst, I could figure something out.

When I got the hotel, I immediately started searching for rental places nearby. Fortunately there was an Enterprise in Winder which was about 10 minutes that allowed me to book a one way. I got there almost immediately and while they didn’t have what I reserved, they were able to get me a Mitsubishi Mirage, which did what we needed.

Side story, the uber on Friday night was scary as shite, guy was slamming monsters, dozing off, missing exits, nearly drifted into another car. I felt i had to keep the guy talking so he wouldn’t just go off the road.
