Blake Baker TRUST these corners - This felt like a classic lsu backend. Baker had Delane, woodland and Pickett playing bump n run on an island majority of the night agaisnt a very strong Clemson wr room. They were up to the task and held their own all damn night. Delane was a damn menace and absolute put a seatbelt on those Clemson guys, dj pickett pitched a shutout in his 20 coverage snaps, and pj woodland was feisty and sticky in coverage. IMO his most impressive coverage snap was when he was in the slot guarding Bryant Wesco on a slot fade in press coverage 1 on 1. Wesco initially beat him but woodland recovered and broke up the ball his athleticism and recovery speed rlly showed on that rep.

Defensive line dominated- straight up they kicked Clemson’s arse in the trenches. Clemson couldn’t get any type of push for the fun cuz McKinley, guillory and gooden would not be moved. Pyburn, Payton and reliford also set the edge and did their thing. These is a deep and talented room.

LB’s- west weeks was up and down but was overall solid. Whit and Perkins were flying around causing havoc. They made life absolutely miserable for klubnik

Safeties - held it down. Gilbert deserves flowers he absolutely nutted up and played well for a half in place of haulcy, Cooley was very strong in coverage has to clean up some of his missed tackles tho , haulcy was an immediate baller after halftime. Clemson actually didn’t score a point with AJ in the game, Spears came out a couple times in dime and had strong coverage reps

This defense is going to fun to watch folks

Our LB’s and secondary looked great. If there’s a better defender in the country than Harold Perkins, I haven’t seen him. We’re stout up front against the run and can throw a ton of bodies in there for quality depth. This unit will be fun to watch all year.

Ahmed Breaux gets quality snaps so everyone stays fresh. Clemsons Oline deserves a lot of credit, they got beat on all night.

I guess I'll have to go back and look I thought he was solid.

DBs are elite, we are going to pick off a lot of passes this year. I think we had .........6 last year.

Nope. Missed a wide open tackle on Klubnick.

TIL on tRant today: If a player whiffs on even just one play, he automatically grades out at an F by Rantards despite the rest of his play.

West had around 5 bad plays. Some of them anyone would have... cade walking by him when hes running full speed and west is flat standing still / 6'2 235 lb rb blew him up a few times (1st down, goal line). But he was there position wise, played hard, and none of it was missed assignment. Penn was more of a liability for sure.

Side note: saw baby weeks pregame walking the field and warmup with him. Hes a fing whit clone and should be a sr in hs. Hes gonna be a DUDE. Hes the same mold as whit where he played rb in hs, and makes him instinctual and fluid. Lucky to have the fam of them

My major takeaway from rewatching the game is that the defense is FAST.

He had FIVE tackles, the sass his brother. Chill out. Let the Coaches decide and go back to playing Fantasy football.

He stood the RB up on that goal line play. That’s the job of first contact. Needed someone else to clean up. His brother would be the usual cleanup but he got blocked out of the play.
Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other team for a well called/well blocked play. They got the RB with one man to beat that close to the goal line. The RB wins that every time unless the LB has a head of steam and great leverage on the play.

It’s a pattern from last season. He was pulled after that play. Go rewatch.

My biggest takeaway was how together and in sync the defense played as a unit. Like they’ve been playing together for multiple seasons. No real busts and everyone knew their assignments and trusted their teammates to do their job. Was very impressed and they really made things difficult for Clemson all night especially in the second half. This unit looks different. Pretty excited to watch them.

They were. But probably not that much more than years past. The big difference is they were physical. No more of the days watching Sage Ryan do everything he could to avoid contact or Burns recklessly flying up to miss a tackle. It’s a different group than years past

Did anyone notice if the front 4 were able to get pressure on the qb without the blitz?

Hester talked about West's plays and said what people don't realize is that his job was to crash down and take on a guard so the looping blitzer can get through. He mentioned how with Baker's scheme there's a lot of players that do great things that don't show on a stat sheet. He was actually very complimentary of West's play.

100% Blake is a fricking defensive genius, you will not fricking believe what he did that last play, even the analyst were amazed, he schemed kubnick right into the arms of Harold Perkins, I shite u not. That's a 5 year experienced projected 1st round pick. But frick it would have worked against Drew Bree or Payton manning

Mine was that they wrap up really well, they seem to have great fundamental tackling skills and mechanics that I hadn’t seen in the previous few years.

Not hating on Gilbert because he did better than we expected, but our bar is so low we give him shoutouts. He actually missed a play on Klubnik on their TD drive and immediately got subbed out for Toviano. Just think it is funny everyone points out how good Gilbert was but literally got replaced mid drive

One of the few times we went zone on 3rd and goal actually hurt us. They did an easy pitch and catch to get to the 2
