Y'all remember Hardy Jackson from Biloxi? Saddest Katrina interview I’ve ever seen.

I think about him every year around this time.
The reporter from the interview actually became close friends with Hardy after this and was there at the hospital with him when his daughter passed of cancer in 2011. So much tragedy for this man, but reports say the family is doing well these days. The wife’s body was finally identified last year and the family now has her ashes.

I saw this live I think, as I was back in MS shortly after to go through the rubble with friends I grew up with. It was brutal.

I remember watching this live in the hotel room in Bossier City where we evacuated. I think this was the moment where it clicked in my head that we were probably in trouble back home.

Man that was just last year. What a story. Props to Jennifer Mayerle. She's a hell of a person.

I remember that. Absolutely heartbreaking. I’m sure there are so many more similar experiences. I don’t know if he is still alive. But I hope he and his kids are doing well.

Edit: just saw the follow-up story. That is great to hear. Still so tragic.

Not sure how but I’ve never seen that interview before. That is so fricking heartbreaking and sad. Damn.

Glad to hear they’re doing well these days. How was the wife not identified until last year??

Ah. Makes sense I guess. At least they were able to get some closure.
