Someone I know just got fired from a job he had been at for less than a month.
NO reason why / No warning. Just not working out for us.
All he got was thanks .......we are letting you go............here is a week's pay.
That cant be legal correct?? There has to be some warning or something right??
(and before this is asked....no drugs/drinking/ anything extreme at all.)

You cant just let someone go without a reason correct?
The guy was still in training for the job.

In Louisiana? At-will state. Means you can be fired without any reason.

probably is legal if its an at-will state, could he sue and get some easy money out of them settling probably...

Sorry you got fired and no...they don't need a reason or to warn you they are about to fire you.

90 day probationary period... They can tell you adios for no reason...

Probably an at will state. Unless your friend was fired for his race, gender identity, or religion, tough shite

Is it in Louisiana? Because LA is an employment-at-will state. They can fire you whatever they want as long as you aren't in a union or have an employment length stated in a contract.

The actual answer to your question is, that his termination is most likely legal, but could potentially be wrongful based on a number of variables-none of which are provided in OP.

Why isn't it legal? Fired and paid him a weeks severance... generous of the company.

Texas,,,,,weird case.
According to Google, Texas is also at-will.

Not a lawyer, but most states are at-will. You can be fired for any reason or no reason, as long as it's not something protected. If they fired him and only paid him for a week when he worked a month, that's probably not legal

How old are you? Yes most states have to give you no reason at all.

Which would make that person a contractor, not an employee.

As an attorney I would advise him to make up some discrimination he witnessed and reported and was subsequently fired for. Bonus points if he overheard someone say the N word.
Ironically that is the same reason I am no longer an attorney.
