Oddly enough the owner of the house had a tree background.
"He is the chairman of the Texas Trees Foundation, and past chairman of the National Tree trust in D.C, and National Arbor Day Foundation in Nebraska."

I don't mean to be insensitive, and I know medical bills can rack up quickly, but am I wrong for thinking it strange that someone who can afford a Porsche Cayenne SUV would need a gofundme?

This is just awful for her and her family. I realize that now the PI attorneys will come out of the gutter to sue the shite out of the homeowner, but I don't see the liability or negligence here at all. Force Majeure.

Everybody wants a gofundme.

Thats terrible if true.
But that woman does not have blonde hair so she isnt from Dallas.

The quote about the tree growing a lot of nuts, and the nuts swelling and adding weight made me laugh.

She will need 24 hour custodial care. Health insurance ain’t gonna cover that.
I shelled out close to $200k a year for it at one point.

I imagine her medical and long term care expenses will far exceed the limits of any insurance coverage if she is paralyzed for life. Not to mention her reduced lifetime earning potential.
I’ve got no issue with a go fund me here.

She's going to need millions of dollars worth of care for a seemingly freak accident. I honestly can't blame the family or whomever put that up for her.
Say for example the care she needs is $5M. Insurance picks up 80%, that balance will need to come from somewhere. And they are relatively young too (in her low 30's).

Very sad. Total accident though.

It's true though.

Suing the homeowner would be downright evil. Suing his insurance is just. If his tree were to have fallen on a neighbor's house, his insurance would pay for the damages. Same goes for a woman who is now paralyzed and drastically loses her quality of life.

I’m pretty sure you got to sue the homeowner to get to his insurance.

When my wife’s mom died years ago from an aneurysm they tried brain surgery to try and save her. Her dad did pretty well for himself and had insurance and it took him many years to pay off that debt.

Ah gotta love the "tree had serious blue balls" argument.

Not necessarily. The tree owner's insurance would only have to pay if the tree was proven to be neglected. Per the news, they showed some decay on the inside of the tree. Per the homeowner's quote, he thinks the tree was "not compromised". I am sure a legal battle is in the future.

I drive down that road every few weeks when I'm taking the side streets home from my buddy's at 2 am.

Sad, but the last thing I’m ever going to do is start a go fund me.

Agree, but in times of grief people do things to try to help. No telling who set this up for her. Could be an old crazy college girlfriend trying to be relevant.
