This has already been attempted twice with Tin Man and Emerald City. Neither of them lasted very long. Fans of the Wizard of Oz want to see just that, the Wizard of Oz, not some bastardized metaphor.

There are plenty of ways you could make a cool story like this that takes the framework of the original and then makes an alternate verison of it.

Well the original novels are public domain so at least they won't have to pay a billion dollars for the rights.
they'll probably get all the folks that watch those singing shows like The Voice to tune in by casting Shelton and Stefani. Now is anyone gonna buy a subscription just to watch this? who knows
