The guy I constantly bitched about for us passing over of course leads the list, but so many others in the 2nd and 3rd round in that grade tier

Brian Branch
Keion White
Cody Mauch
Jayden Reed
Zach Charbonnet
Gervin Dexter
Rashee Rice
Marvin Mims
Byron Young
Tucker Kraft
Devon Achane

All starters and performing well. A couple #1 receivers in this group. Could have thrown a dart at 2nd or 3rd round draft prospects and came out better than what we picked….

I posted this on another thread but damn
quote:

Over his two years appearing in 27 regular season games, he registered no sacks and was mostly relegated to a special teams role. Despite appearing in the third-most snaps during the 2025 preseason, Foskey registered a single pressure on 49 pass rushing snaps (T-No. 3 on the team). He also added four total tackles but was notched with a 28.6% missed tackle rate over the trio of contests.

Those same teams have just as many misses as we do.

I don’t know what your day job is, but how you aren’t running an NFL scouting department is beyond me. You should just print out your TD posts, send it to all 32 teams and let them bid on your services.

Well I mean Foskey was Notre Dame’s all time sack leader with freakish athleticism. Just didn’t work out

Rice might have killed someone had he come to new orleans

It's one thing to feature OL and DL in first round every year but quite another when you pass up other skill players and miss

We also passed on a lot of shitty players. Welcome to the NFL draft. Just a couple of analyses by people smarter than OP:

quote:

1st Round: 34/60, hit rate of 56%

2nd Round: 20/60, hit rate of 33.3%

3rd Round: 12/60, hit rate of 20%

4th Round: 17/60, hit rate of 28.3%

5th Round: 9/60, hit rate of 15%

LINK

quote:

1st round - about 50% of players drafted in the 1st round developed into solid NFL starters.

2nd round - about 33% of players drafted in the 2nd round developed into solid NFL starter. From here, it dropped by 50% per round.

3rd round - about 16%.

4th round - about 8%.

5th round - about 4-5%.

6th round - about 2%.

7th round - about 1-2%.

LINK

Note that 8% hit rate in 4th round when you get pissy about the Vele trade.

I also hated the Foskey pick. These three guys, Brian Branch, Keion White, and Cody Mauch were all obviously better picks for the Saints and many of us said so at the time. Branch was my first choice, but I would have been happy with Mauch.

We definitely would be in better shape than the shite that’s being turned in on draft day by Loomis and company.

That’s all well and good but considering who was coaching at the time I don’t think it would have mattered.

The Saints hit on some under-the-radar selections early in the Payton tenure and then decided they were the smartest people in the room. They were going to draft small-program freaks with moderate to little college production and show the NFL they were stars. They were going to draft undersized QB with below average arm strength and roll things over to the next "Drew Brees".

We missed on Foskey, but of course there are a bunch of players that we could have taken and who are doing better. That is always the case when you whiff on a high pick. Our problem has been missing too dang much. Well, that and not recognizing when we have a good player like Baun.

Ladies and Gents of the jury, I submit this piece of evidence…

As data analyst Jeff Asher pointed out on @wdsu No NFL team has drafted worse than Saints since 2018. Only 1 pro bowl player drafted (McCoy) since ‘18. If 2024/25 classes don’t produce foundation pillars Saints DOOMED & Gayle/Lauscha may have to force front office changes IMO.

Did you even bother to check the source? It's some random Saint Podcaster with 3k followers no one here will have heard of. Yeah that sounds super credible.

Anyone tapped into Saints news knows who these guys are, for better or worse. Is bonethug0180 credible enough to say it isn’t true? Think we know that answer.

Gregg Rosenthal is a national guy with 250k followers. Hope this helps

Oh wow, we lost 2 more Olinemen in the preseason and these guys somehow knew we would be targeting one? MUST be insider info...
