CEO Plotted Woke Annihilation of Cracker Barrel for Over a Year

Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Felss Masino made clear all the way back in last May that she planned a woke coup to kill the culture of the beloved restaurant chain.
“We’re just not as relevant as we once were,” Masino told far-left CBS News last May. “[W]e are not leading in any area,” she added. “[T]he reality is we’ve lost some market share, especially at dinner.”
At the time, per CBS, “Cracker Barrel’s sales ha[d] flatlined, with revenue for its most recent quarter unchanged at $935.4 compared with a year earlier, while its stock has tumbled 40% so far in 2024.”
Masino told CBS that she was testing different food items and more dynamic pricing based on the average income in each store area.
quote:
Then came the remodeling. “The goal, simply put, was to freshen things in such a way as to be noticeable and attractive but still feel like Cracker Barrel,” she continued. “Historically, Cracker Barrel has made limited changes to our design aesthetic, and we’ve probably relied a little too much on what was perceived to be the timeless nature of our concept.”
No one opposes change, especially if your stock has lost 40 percent of its market share. In fact, in that situation, change is necessary. What’s at issue here is the type of change this dimwit initiated, and it’s the kind of change we tend to see when leftist women are put in charge.
As we have seen with Bud Light and NPR, leftist women are so self-involved and narcissistic that rather than increase the appeal of what works to their already sizable customer base, they force the institution to go woke so that it appeals to them.
Not all heroes wear capes.

I think it's fair to say Masino is not the target demographic for Cracker Barrel.

Yep, and then they lose their base customers, and still don't bring in the crowd they were targeting (that crowd was never coming). I've said it before, these people are extremely intelligent, educated from the finest schools (however woke they may be), yet they are literally brainwashed stupid. It doesn't take a Harvard MBA to realize that alienating your customer base in hopes of gaining new business from impossible targets, is a VERY BAD IDEA. But, they are so invested in inclusion and woke policy, they throw out all common sense.

So cracker barrel was failing before the wokeness and this is a ceos attempt to change things up and save the business? That sounds right actually

I doubt the CEO had even eaten at a Cracker Barrel. If the company was smart, they’d partner with Paula Dean and have her help bring the company back to its roots.

Sydney would bring the Barrell back for sure
Make her the logo

They're losing their customer base regardless.

By changing their logo and remodeling interiors?

quote:This is, to me, the puzzling thing about the effort to 'appeal to a new audience' or whatever these imbeciles think they're doing. It's obvious, or should be, that in all these brand repositionings they're never going to attract the demo they're appealing to and in most cases, even if they did, the segment they're trying to reach is a fraction of the size of the customer base they're alienating. It's insane.
that crowd was never coming

They are now thanks to this debacle.

The Harvard MBA teaches you that this is a GOOD idea.

That remains to be seen, but old people dying is something that you can bet the bank on.

Idk the cracker barrel demographic was dying off... This is a case where the business may fail if it can't adapt to younger people

A decrease of 40% is easier to overcome than replace but several CEO’s are not smart enough to see that. The fact it decreased demonstrates that the company is capable of reaching that level.
The 1st and foremost step is a return to where you were. Once you get that only then do you consider additional market opportunities and even then absolutely not alternative opportunities.

Mo Jeaux, you keep doing this - pretending they haven’t gayed up their brand.

She’s not even that. BA in some soft skill field from a non-remarkable institution. Education isn’t a substitute for experience, but doesn’t even lack the baseline business education/foundation an MBA provides.
She’s just an idiot.

The outrage over Cracker Barrel might be more embarrassing than the left’s outrage over American eagle jeans ads.
Two sides of the same coin with these people

Corporations have been taking their established customer bases for granted for decades. The more this happens, the more likely the people running corporations might, MIGHT, learn that their customers can freely choose from a huge variety of competing options and maybe one day we see company's actually act like they have to compete for customers again.
But I don't think it's a high % chance this happens, most of these people making these decisions have such large egos and undiagnosed narcissism that they will not learn.

Their problem is younger people (Gen X and below) know what good food tastes like so they won’t be resorting to eating Cracker Barrel in their golden years. If they fixed the food it would price out the boomers living SS check to SS check.

Firing the CEO and making Paula Deen the face will do wonders

I think that's the lightning rod causing most of this. Major chains facing extinction "freshen up" all the time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't see anything "woke" about this refresh but people remember rainbow chairs on the front porch and that naturally makes them suspicious.
