Is OnStar worth paying for?

I'm currently on a 3 month trial and am wondering if it's worth keeping once the trial ends. Seems like it would be a very good thing to have if you ever actually need to use it. Anyone here have any experience with it?

Had no idea that still existed

Until they invent a device that you can carry around at all times to have in the event of an emergency I'd say it's a must.

The automatic crash response is the only thing that seems intriguing to me in this day and age of cell phones.

what od you actually do with it?
The first time I ever saw or heard of on start was like 2025 years ago, and the fact it could give you driving directions or suggest a good restaurant in town blew my mind. Now obviously there are dozens of other programs that can also do that for free

I have managed to survive last 40 years without it

Seems like you would be able to answer this for yourself after a 3 month trial.
For me, no it's not.

I had a friend who had a very bad accident... she couldn't have dialed a phone if she tried. Had her apple phone not had crash detection and sent help immediately, she would have died.
My mom had a smaller accident but it rattled her and she was momentarily disoriented- her Toyota thingy automatically sent out help, that was nice.
In an accident, phones can go flying or you can be severely injured or disoriented- I think having **something** as a back up plan is a good idea.

It seems to me like one of those things you pay for but never need, but if you don't pay for it you'll need it and wish you had it.

It's useful for finding Booth's grocery when you need a cast net. Other than that I don't know why you'd use it.

life360 pretty much does the same thing now. It will detect a crash and send it to the local authorities.

Don't most cell phones / smart devices have this built in today?

Yes for peace of mind
My parents have had it for probably 25 in years or so
My mom has been saved numerous occasions locking herself out of her car ( yes it’s due to her carelessness but the point remains )
Or when she had a flat tire once before , press the button, immediately talk to someone and they dispatched someone to her location to fix it
She swears by it and will never not have it .

I rarely upgrade my phone. Until last month my phone did not have that capability- but new toyota did.

This same technology already exists on your cell phone. You can also get it through life 360, etc.

For women and elderly people who drive alone frequently, it is nice to have

Don’t let them sell you on the prevention of a theft though. The thieves that stole my truck were able to disable on star and onstar was unable to access my truck and shut it off. So it can be tampered with
