Game Youtubers going hard in the paint to defend Bethesda's new writer for ES6

Was the lead writer on Veilguard.
Now I am making no judgements at all on the hire. I don't think Robert Frost could have saved the shitshow of Veilguard.
I just think it is funny that Youtube's biggest Bethesda guy, Mr.Matty, and the biggest BioWare guy, LukeStephens, both released hardcore defenses of the writer with almost the exact same talking points.
I still like both of them, because they stay almost entirely apolitical, but god damn.

I don't think that MrMatty qualifies as "hard in the paint" or a "hardcore defense" of this hire. I don't watch a ton of his stuff, so I'll take your word on his remaining apolitical in most things.
This was, at best, a "cautiously optimistic" analysis of the hire, with a review of the good and bad in the dude's resume.
Frankly, Bethesda has been selling Skyrim for a decade. The (and it has to be admitted) big fumble with Starfield forces an analysis that if TES VI comes out of the gate weak, Bethesda is in more than a little bit of trouble. I'm not saying they can't survive even a total failure of VI, but the entire company would have be re-evaluated in that light.
The expectations for Starfield were, no doubt, sky high. All they had to deliver was a Skyrim/Fallout 3 experience in space. They either misread the room or there are systemic problems within the company that will be revealed when the next Elder Scrolls chapter is launched.
We shall see...
(ETA: Luke Stephens was fairly fawning, though, so your comments are fairly accurate for that. That was almost like he was paid to bolster that dude.)

My biggest issue with Starfield was it was a mile wide, zero inches deep. They should have focused on 3 planets, and had generic planets available but let modders run nuts with them.

I try periodically to get back into Starfield, and every time I feel like I'm getting traction. But last time, 3 different planets on 3 different settings, i found the same facility type on each one, same layout, same enemies, same loot. Lost my steam.
I want to get into ship building at some point, but that aspect of the game makes me walk away every time.

Feel like this could apply to TES as a whole.
Part of why I’m such an unabashed Fromsoft fanboy - those games are a hundred yards wide and a mile deep.

I am definitely not encouraged by this hire.

Having to put in this level of effort to enjoy a fricking video game is the exact reason why Bethesda (and AAA at large) is in the doghouse.
The mission statement from jump should be making an experience that people want to invest their time into. Having to treat it like a homework assignment rather than a product you spent your hard earned money to experience is antithetical to that goal.

I really love it when I'm discovering new things. It's when I hit the cookie cutter stuff repeatedly is when I get put off.

The story gets really good on the moon for about a minute. But that's about it. Story is dumb

Matty is all in for Bethesda. That said, you wouldn't know it with how brutal he has been on them recently. He loves them, but when they drop the ball he will be harder on them than anyone.

Its still crazy how much No Mans can pump out compared to Starfield..

My main complaint with Bethesda is how the hell can you not pounce on the Fallout show series success with a new Fallout game? Fallout is red hot and they are still pushing 76 which was released almost 7 years ago. It seems like such a huge fumble and just a retarded decision. Remastered 3 or New Vegas for me are along the lines of oblivion remaster. Nice for a bit then the age shows
I always play some elder scrolls but then lose interest. I played the Oblivion remaster and it was nostalgic for a while but then meh. ESO i could never really grasp the skill rotation for magic spells and it seemed overdone and complicated. Makes me wonder if Skyrim was lightning in a bottle rather than what they are really capable of.

Hell no. Could definitely be applied to skyrim though compared to morrowind and somewhat oblivion.
Oblivion Remastered has made me realize how much more they can do when it comes to making NPCs make cities feel alive.
Whichever studio figures out how to use AI to make citizens all have their own personalities rather than just written lines will make bank selling that to other studios.

Only hindrance to this is the actors guilds.

I tricked myself into thinking that I was enjoying the Oblivion remake (my first TES experience ever)...I finished all of the guild questlines and maybe halfway through the main questline and then I just stopped. It was at that point that I realized this game was as shallow as dog piss on the kitchen floor.

This hire is obviously not an encouraging sign.
But my biggest issue with Bethesda and what I still think holds them back majorly is their refusal to move on from the creation engine. It’s super outdated and is responsible for how often their games are littered with flaws. It’s also why they have the highest staff retention in the industry, which might sound good at first, but it’s really because no one else wants to or even knows how to use to their engine

Idk anything about Veilguard
The style of the animation looked terrible so i never bought it.
Online he wrote the story line of one companion and a “Veil Jumper” quest
Senior Quest Designer probably means he gets a maybe a faction quest.
Looking at his other credits idk if I have played any of them.
A Bioshock Infinite DLC
ME Andromeda

I have no judgement regarding the guy.
Just thought it was funny how quickly the talking points went out.

Mr.Matty,
horrible shill, who would suck a dick, if it meant he could get a minute of leaked game stuff, before anyone else.
