They are quite good. But you could drag a Redwing work boot thru the blooming onion sauce and it would likewise be good.

If they aren't properly cut/battered, they can be bad

Both Outback and the Bloomin’ Onion were created by a Cajun baw. The more you know.

Where did you hear this? The co-founders are both from Florida, and I wasn't aware that either had a Cajun background.

The idea of the Bloomin Onion originated at Russell's Marina Grill in New Orleans. I think the founders had some tie to the place or the guy who came up with it. I don't know that he was/is "Cajun" specifically, though.

The original “bloomin onion” is the onion mum invented at Russell’s Marina Grill in Lakeview.

Warren LeRuth, who owned LeRuth’s in Gretna, did some work for Outback after his restaurant days. Wasn’t a founder but did a lot for their menu.

I don’t think LeRuth was Cajun. He was a classically trained French pastry chef.

DI's restaurant in Basile does a version of the bloomin' onion that's pretty good as well.

I love outback, but their starters outshine their entrees

their cheese fries are elite
the free bread is awesome
i like the little side salad sure

theyr steaks and stuff are ok.

The corporate chef for Outback in the 90s and into the 2000s lived on the northshore. He even had his own kitchen there.
