With the 9 game SEC schedule, does that mean SEC teams no longer have to schedule a P4 OOC

Because the playoff committee will never reward an SEC team for another loss due to having to play an extra SEC team plus an OOC P4 team.

The B1G has no such requirement.

SEC teams are required to schedule at least one additional high quality non-conference from the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten or Big 12 conferences or Notre Dame each season. The SEC will continue to evaluate its policies to ensure the continued scheduling of high-quality non-conference opponents.

No, we are doing that because tv pays more for more big games.

Sure, and it pretty much guarantees LSU doesn’t make the playoff ever again unless we get another Joe Burrow and an all-star OL and DL

Teams like Illinois will get in over us and get their doors blown off by the likes of UGA and Texas

I rather play in the playoffs. I don't give a damn about a meaningless ooc game or extra SEC game. I want the easies schedule possible in order to make the playoffs.

Since you apparently believe that most of the teams in the ACC, Big 12, and Big 10 are "weak arse" and have no business anywhere near the playoff, then having to schedule one shouldn't be a problem, right?

Play one of them in the regular season and blow their doors off then...problem solved.

Go be a La Tech fan if you don't want to watch big games

I hate to tell you, but by 2030 when all the tv contracts come up, it will only be sec and power four(maybe 5 if the pac12 can survive) games. Expanded playoffs too. They will need to maximize revenue with the rev share.

but that would be SOOOO boring.

I'm just the opposite. I want compelling and competitive regular season games. If we make the playoffs - great. But give me a full season of tough games against very good opponents.

It's entertainment, you know.

Granted a talent like Joe Burrow does not come along all that often but other wise you are just talking about having a good team.

UGA last year played 2 P4 OOC games, the next 4 highest ranked SEC teams Bama Texas Ole Miss Tenn and 3 of those ON THE ROAD plus the SECCG and went 11-2.

My only caveat is that once it is fully back in action next season, they need to add the PAC to this list. They are not really a Power conference, but we need more potential inventory for scheduling. Those teams will be much more likely to accept a one-off or two for one than most of the P4.

Since the rest of the P4 doesn’t currently have this scheduling mandate, the main downside is that it could drive up the price to get a game on the books. If you try to set up a one off or two for one vs a smaller program with a small home stadium like Northwestern or Purdue, rather than a home and home, they know they can shop that around to other SEC schools that don’t have permanent OOC rivalry games and create competition. It’s the same thing G5s do today to get bigger guarantees. And until the have this same scheduling requirement, they will never have the same problem.

Josh Pate will be mad, but an easy solution to avoid having to outbid other teams for P4 home games would be to have more opening week neutral site games. This would fill the need when one or both teams don’t want or can’t fit in a home and home. We fans don’t like it as much, but college football is big business now and a game like this with a decent TV spot and split gate probably makes more money than a home game minus a guarantee.

If the SEC really wants to help us out so we can get more SEC teams in neutral site openers, get the NCAA to bend and let us have one slot on Week 0 for a game vs a P4. Then you would have a captive audience for a game that may typically not be as attractive of a matchup. It would get better ratings than it would Week 1 and it would keep us from potentially flooding the market with neutral site as much on opening week.

We should definitely not have to have a P4 OOC since 2024 Ohio St nor 2023 Michigan did have a P4 OOC.
