"We weren't actively shopping at all, but teams in need of receivers obviously do a good enough job, they look at the depth of certain teams," Payton said on Thursday. "So within a three-day period, (general manager) George (Paton) and I had gotten calls from two serious teams and a third, and all coincidentally on the same player. ... The next morning he and I sat down and said, 'No, obviously we value this player.' Then the following day it picked up, it became more serious.
"[He has] all the things that we look for: discipline, structure, smart, tough, talented. That's why this one was difficult. Certainly New Orleans was looking. Just talking with (Saints general manager) Mickey (Loomis), they felt they were missing a bigger receiver. They knew we had a number of big receivers. It kind of went in the beginning of the week as just discussion. Then two teams really came back more than serious about this trade.
"There is a point at some point where you're looking at the roster, you're looking at your depth and towards the end it was something we felt was going to be best for the club. He was fantastic when we visited with him. He's going to be a real good player for them."

It really doesn’t matter but its funny listening to everyone pretend like the broncos are stacked at WR. Sutton is pretty good but outside of that it’s all jags. Evan Engram could be a stud but usually under lives the hype or gets hurt.

It’s kinda funny, but supposedly the guy they drafted right after we picked Broughton has impressed them and made Vele expendable.

I like the trade. Gives the Saints a possible big WR they lacked. The guy out preformed his draft position.

I’m not really concerned about giving up the 4th and 7th.

Draft picks are always HoFer until you put an actual name next to the draft spot.

If only we had an o-line, a running game(AK will shut down annd mail it in from game 6 forward) and a competent QB to throw to him.

He doesn't sound like a bad player at all, but realistically we spent a future 4th and 7th, both picks that could have been used on a 23 year or younger player, for a 28 year old, that will be 30 looking for a nice deal.

But the worst part is this. This trade takes us from a 2 win team to a 3 win team this season. So it effectively takes us out of the running to choose our franchise QB in the draft. We will have to pick from who is left over.

The other issue I see is that Kellen Moore doesn't seem to understand that value of draft picks. It was his decision to take Shough at 40 and this was his decision as well. Since Kellen is trying to speedrun this rebuild, I really do think he should have less of a leash than what we thought he would have coming in.

Well we can’t fix everything in one offseason. When you’re rebuilding you have to take opportunities to add players that can possibly improve your team as they come.

If he's 30 and "looking for a nice deal" then CKM chose wisely don't you think?
Players like a coach that believes in them and goes and trades for them. An extension may be his thank you. We will see.

Payton is just ecstatic that he received a 4th rd Draft Pick for a player they might have cut off the roster because they have incredible depth at WR.

Just think about it… players you will be cutting.. it would be nice to get a 6th or 7th draft pick in a trade…..and that usually NEVER happens !

Sean received a 4th Rounder !!!

Loomis was Azz-Raped !!!

Holy shite this is such a tired over used point. What if that internet retard believe's in Sean Peyton's evaluation over Kellen Moore's? Someone is going to "win" the trade.

Also, there's an entire office of executives, headed my Loomis that have more control over scouting and player acquisitions than our 1st year coach KM. You have no idea what KM's involvement was in the evaluating process so stop pretending like yall know.

Not necessarily true, both sides can win if Vele is a good player for us and the Broncos draft a solid player with our pick. I think it was a good move, our receiving group had zero size before, Vele is a guy you go to on 3rd down to move the chains. First downs = points, production immediately vs waiting until 2026 to take a dart throw in the 4th round.

Exactly.

Vele showed he can produce solid numbers (for a No. 3 WR) in the NFL. Whoever the Saints would have taken in the 4th round of the 2026 draft would have no such history of production...just potential. Most teams would be content to have a solid No. 3 WR with a 4th round pick. In this instance, the Saints potentially got their No. 3 WR with a 4th round pick a year early

11.6 yards per catch

Albeit in just one season

Not bad for a big bodied receiver.

He will most definitely get some chances down there in the Red zone you would think.

Yes its possible for both sides to benefit. Its also possible for both sides to lose. Typically we look back with hindsight and assign winner/loser tags on these sorts of things. I don't hate Vele as a player. But when you look at his age, his production, and his injury concerns, theres not enough there to justify giving away a 4th and 7th. Just tired of this relationship we have with Sean and Denver, I don't trust it.

Claims to know that everyone has more control than our 1st year HC while fussing at someone for pretending like they know...

Where does this bullshite come from?

Dude has always prepared and played hard. Even 3 years ago when a few on this board were saying he was done.
