AT&T Fiber Install: Advice Please!

Figured I’d get more traction here, as opposed to the Tech Board:
AT&T Fiber finally became available in my area, and I’m scheduled for an install tomorrow afternoon.
I know that there are certain tips and tricks to make sure everything runs fast and smooth, but I’m not very tech savvy and would appreciate any advice.
I’ll be changing from Cox GigaBlast internet…I currently have a Motorola modem and a Google router and mesh system. Thanks in advance.

Prepare for ATT to not show up, but start charging you anyway.

Bury a conduit for the line

Make sure they set the permissions up correctly for your mesh to work. They didn’t and it took me a while to get everything right.

Don't buy more bandwidth than you really need.
They will try to sell you 3 or 5 or 10 gb/sec options.
Most folks don't need near that speed.

This. They don’t do a good job of burying the line.

The ATT installers seemed about 5x smarter than anyone I have met from Cox. I think ATT is one of the worst companies but my and my parents both got fiber and I was impressed both times.

for me, the guy showed up. He worked outside for about an hour. Then inside for about 20 minutes and I was all set up.
only hassle was an orange fiber wire running across the driveway and yard. but they had it buried 2 days later.
i have been nothing buy happy since going fiber from U-verse broadband.

What, three months ago? It's gonna budge, buddy. I assure you.
I got a crazy deal for 300mb when they came to my neighborhood, it's up bigly in the years following.
I need to call them to cancel, and see what new deal they can give me.

The techs get a bad reputation because the process is a train wreck, and the techs have to deal with the complaints though they are doing their job in a good manner. Give the techs a break, they don’t like the process either.

No issues since having the fiber installed. Just make sure all of your stuff connected works bf he leaves. My guy actually showed up timely.

Cancel the service and run as fast as possible away from AT&T

This. I’ve been waiting 2 years for them to bury my neighbors line to the pole on my side of the fence. I’ve called, neighbor has called but there is about 15 foot still laying on the ground.
I even had att come out to run fiber for a different neighbor and they wouldn’t bury the first line.
At some point the lawn mower is going to catch it.

They fricked up my irrigation system digging, and also didn’t bury the line well enough. The yard guy cut it the next week.
Other than that I’ve had far less outage issues than when I was with Cox.

Each phase of fiber is contracted, including burying the line in your yard, at least up here. You probably don’t have much time but if you can. At least have a piece of split conduit to put around the line where it comes up into the junction box outside your home.
Also, if you use chromecast or roku dde i es, etc, have them name the network/pswd
the same as you currently have so you don’t have to factory reset. Not difficult just a pain.
Edit: devices, not dde i es

Went through this several times. The box at the house needed to be replaced. The tech came out the first time to diagnose it. The next 4 trips, their dispatch told them they needed to go out to diagnose it and not actually replace it. This was after me telling their customer service to tell the tech to bring a replacement box. On the 5th trip, the same tech that came out the first time came to the house. I told him I was cancelling. He said “I looked at the address, looked at the call out details and I knew you were gonna tell me that and I don’t blame you one bit”.
