You’ve been putting in all the work, had some good rounds, then go out there and can’t hit a single fairway.

Thought about it? Hell, I've done it 5 times.

I try to think about quitting a lot because it seems like every time it creeps into my head I hit a 185 yard approach to 4 feet.

I did a while back. I was more a once a month weekend warrior and charity scramble kinda guy. Got busy with kids picked up another hobby as well and didn’t play a round for damn near 3 years then went and played on a whim with some friends and got hooked again. then my oldest daughter started playing and now I play all the damn time and wish I could play more.
Golf is a hard game to play but it’s those glimpses of greatness that make you want to play it more and more.

Yes I've thought of quitting. In fact I haven't played since June because I was so distraught about the way I played last time out. My problem is that I used to be pretty good. 1 handicap in my 20's and I think I should still be able to do that. I don't practice enough or play enough for that to be reality plus that was 40 years ago. If I can ever get my expectations to match reality I probably am not as bad as I think. Maybe then ill go back out and enjoy it.

Only after a bad shot.
For me, golf is not a hobby.
It’s an addiction.
On a good day, it is nirvana.
On a bad day, it is Dante’s inferno.

Yep, used to be really good 3-4 handicap. Raising kids and running a business took its toll on my game. Got back into it regularly about 7 yrs ago when my son who was 18 at the time started playing. Shot even par twice the summer of 2022 and thought I had it back. Decided to take some lessons to sharpen up a few things and see if I could get to scratch. ?? got all screwed up mentally, shanks, topping the ball, shooting in the 90’s!
Pretty sure if my son wouldn’t have been playing I would have hung it up for good. Dropped the lessons and took a break. Then worked back to find my old swing and I’m a 7.3 now. But I don’t care to invest the time it takes to really get better. Too many other fun things to do to spend a ton of time practicing golf. Had to change my mentality from competitive to enjoying my time out there with my son, my friends and business associates and let the score be what it is. Still sucks when I don’t play well but it only lingers for a couple hours and not days/weeks anymore.

I have always played for fun and to try to score well, but now I do it almost as much for the exercise and movement since I am trying to get healthier. I am not great, but not a duffer. My goal is to break 90 every round. Years ago 100 was the number, so I have gotten better.
But now, if I am having a crappy round, I don't let it bother me nearly as much. I just tell myself to enjoy being outside and moving around and to try again next time.

Quit almost completely years ago when the kids were playing multiple sports basically all year long. Still played a few charity scrambles but even gave up my club membership because with the lack of time to play it was wasting money.
Now they're grown and I try to play once a week but this summer the heat has deterred me some, the heat takes it's toll on me more now since I'm getting old.

Quite the opposite. I love getting better I'm actually curious if I ever do attain my goal of a consistent mid 70's golfer will I lose the fire to keep getting better. I've dropped at least 10 strokes over the last 2 years and with only 7-10 more to go I'm curious what happens once the goal is reached.

Played religiously until I had my first kid. I remember my last round like it was yesterday, miserable. I just couldnt play/practice enough to stay consistent.
11 years later, I dont know why I think ive got any more time than I used to, but Ive got the bug again and want to give it a shot.

Quit for 15 years. Started back this year. Shooting low eighties with goal to get back to the seventies. It can be a maddening game

My game started to go south a few years ago. Was a single digit handicapper, then everything went south, especially off the tee. Been working hard at the range and didn't miss a fairway Saturday. Of course, everything else was shite, but that's golf. Wasn't happy playing like crap and thought about quitting, even after buying new irons. But the pieces are falling together, but only after a lot of practicing.

Take two weeks off then quit! I often think about that line when I had a bad round. Lol.
In all seriousness, I’ve gotten back into golf after about a 12 year hiatus and it’s been a lot of fun. Got a registered handicap that started as a 12 and have it all the way down to 5. It’s fun to buy new clubs, work on my game, socialize with friends and hit absolute bombs. At the end of the day, I try not to take it too seriously. I complain in my head that I didn’t break 80 or something but once I’m home and I’ve thought about it, I may have shot a score that 4 years ago would have been a great day. It’s been a fun ride and I don’t think I’ll be giving up the game anytime soon.
Take a break and come back to it. May do you some good.
