Camille made landfall with max sustained winds of 175 mph and a central pressure of 900 millibars. She is one of only four hurricanes to make landfall in the United States at Category 5 strength, along with the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane, Hurricane Andrew (1992) and Hurricane Michael (2018).

Rode it out in a house in meraux. Thankful it went east. The room we were in was later flattened by Katrina.

I saw what Ida did my house 2021. Hard to convince me it was not a 5 too. Camille flattened Waveland. Parents had friends there that rebuilt afterwards. As a kid I could not comprehend how high the Gulf water came up with the surge.

I was on vacation out west. (9 years old at the time).
My wife rode it out on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

During the Covid shutdown Josh Morgerman (iCyclone) moved to Bay Saint Louis. The house he rented had survived both Camille and Katrina. He liked the area and house so much that he decided to stay, bought a lot near, maybe across the road from the old house, and built a new house of a similar design to the old one to Fortified Gold standard.

Could use a good gulf hurricane bringing some rains further inland right about now. It’s pretty hot outside.

You sure you want that. Camile brough flooding rains and mudslides to the Virginas.

Last year, Helene flooded western North Carolina.

Hurricane Ida, flooded New York and New Jersey, and killed more individuals directly in those states than Louisiana.

My aunt and uncle lived in Biloxi and also rode it out.
Uncle told me after WWII he never thought anything could bother him until Camille.
Several months later they moved away.

It was initially thought that Camille had 210mph winds. That’s what was reported at the time.

I was a kid in Pensacola and my dad worked for the power company and was out all night working. That was a rough night.

It was pretty cool watching him build his house. It’s a small house but like you said it’s built like a fortress and it’s on high elevation.

Were you on the water? Curious what the coastal impact was that far east.

If this same storm would happen today, guess what would be the reason??

You got it!

It’s extremely easy and convenient to blame any single “abnormal” weather event on climate change. Oh- excuse me, - climate catastrophe.

Buddy of mine was in Vietnam when Camille hit. His mother was killed in Waynesboro Mississippi during the storm.
