It would be such an amazing accomplishment of the human race to build a bridge across it and connect the American continent to Eurasia. With modern engineering, I have to believe it is possible. I would love to see it happen someday. It could be a huge benefit for the USA and the world in terms of economic development!

Until it ices over. Oh, and until you hit the road of bones in Russia which is the only road to the coast. Road is a nice term, as it’s like the Oregon trail.

There are no more than 1000 people living within 1000 miles of this potential bridge.
Massive waste of dollars

What would Russia contribute besides the land on one end? They have a two trillion dollar annual GDP. We might as well ask Canada.

The rail link doesnt sound bad.

Its been an ongoing discussion for 50 years. I think eventually it will happen, as the arctic is the next frontier.

I won Yakutsk in Risk once, impossible to hold.

There is a place called Magadan in the middle of nowhere. Dave Magadan played for the Mets and other people. Maybe he was from there.

I'd prefer we used those billions and billions of dollars to maybe prop up the huge number of structurally deficient bridges that we already have. I don't give a shite about the Bearing Straits.

The sea depth in the Bering Strait reaches 300 feet. That’s the technological impediment.

It’s the same reason there is no bridge between Sicily and Italy.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
Those areas have zero population and that bridge would fall down in a few years due to the insane climate.

It will probably be a tunnel. The Strait is very shallow.

The arctic is the next resource frontier. Countries (including the USA) are scrambling to put infrastructure in place.

We've converting ships to icebreakers. But you'll need more than the ability to sail if the Arctic resource race comes to fruition.

I mean, it's not like Ted Stevens didn't already try it once.

I had a similar idea years ago about building a bridge from the Florida Keys to the Gulf Coast as a way to cut down drive time. However, it's not feasible because of the water depth, hurricanes and lack of land mass.

The bridge to Gravina Island needs to be built. Folks have to catch a ferry to the airport presently.

Its the 5th busiest airport in AK.
