I used Endurance. Took a little effort but they paid for a brand new transmission in a '19 F150

They’re all the same. I have car shield for one. It’s decent piece of mind for a catastrophic failure but they’re all a pain in the arse to deal with

They are cancellable at any time, so if you time it right you can really come out ahead if you need a major repair.

Not sure how many mechanics like dealing with them... "proving" a part needs replaced etc.

It's best to ask your shop which they prefer dealing with before you pull the trigger.

Check with your credit union if the vehicle is financed. Their prices were more than half of the dealerships extended warranties. You can even verify the name of whoever your credit union uses with the dealerships service dept and see if they have worked with them in the past or have had any issues.

Why would anyone think these are good deals? Whatever the monthly rate is, just pay yourself that same amount in an interest bearing account. You’ll come out ahead in the long run.

Much like Vegas, the only way they make money is the odds are stacked in their favor so that they get to keep more of your money and keep you committed by granting you occasional wins.

Use caution, some don’t cover everything.
Buy dependable vehicles, problem solved.

I have the top tier plan with SecureNet. So far, it's been worthwhile as I don't buy new cars. Since purchase, they've covered the torque converter, a door lock switch, and tire sensors and it's already paid for itself. I have a $100 deductible each time I bring it in.

My wife has another warranty company for her Tahoe and they've paid for a bunch of stuff. The first thing was the touch screen infotainment system which crapped out right after we bought it. It paid for itself then. I'd review the plans and make sure you see what's covered.

If buying from a dealer, don't have the cheesy finance guy with the big fvckin gold watch tell you which one is best. Also, if you choose the platinum plan make sure they don't "accidentally" click the bronze plan and charge you the higher platinum rate.

yeah I dont get the whole insurance for things that you could just pay for out of pocket. These companies are going to win most of the time or they wouldn't be in business.

I guess if might make sense for a person who wants to sleep without worrying about unexpected expenses. They'd rather just have expected expenses

also, if the company has a reputation like many home "warranty" outfits, the only service people who will be willling to deal with them are the less reputable more desperate service companies.

I’ve never bought any of them…and honestly, never needed them.

If you can forecast a major repair it can be great IE:

-say your '19 F150 starts shifting funny.
-purchase warranty and drive it for the required "probationary time"(1 month and 1500 miles i believe)
-once time has expired bring to your mechanic and have them determine new transmission is needed
-submit claim($10k) and get repair done
-cancel policy after only paying roughly 3 months worth of payments

Never thought about paying a middle man for a repair warranty when the money saved would pay a large chunk if not all of a major repair.

When my 2020 Subaru Forrester needed a $1500 fix, I was kicking myself for not having bought an extended service plan. Then I found out there was an extended 15 year warrantee on the bad part... free fix. A little checking and I find a similar extended warrantee on the info/media console. Before buying a plan research the actual warrantee situation on your vehicle.

Exactly. First off they are not “extended warranties”, they are mechanical breakdown insurance. And like all insurance, they are for profit to themselves. It’s best to self insure in this case.
