How much did your electric bill increase this past billing cycle?

Mine is the highest it has ever been in 15 + years of living at my house. Entergy. 2370 living area.
$430.00.
My 4 ton AC stays at 76 degrees, which cools all of my house, minus 3 bedrooms. My smaller 2.5 ton AC stays at 76 all day, and then gets turned down to 70 degrees at night. This has been my routine for quite some time now.
Ceiling fans are in constant use. And I have 2 dehumidifiers, which help tremendously at making my house feel cooler than what the temperature shows.

how old are your units
17 years old. Both are Rheem, and run very well.
My dad (passed away) installed them for me. He owned an air conditioning company.

Ours took about a 20% jump from the month before. No additional use and we are consistently conservative.

I haven’t seen a utility bill at any of my places in a decade.
All auto drafted.
I’ve got programmable WiFi-connected thermostats on every HVAC unit, that’s how I keep track of the vast majority of the amount of power I use.

$8…I do the average monthly billing. It went from $115 to $123.

Level billing, bruh. My bill stays between $190-200 12 months a year. I keep track of my electricity usage YOY and it has generally trended downward. After I got a new A/C in December 2023, my monthly average dropped $50-60/month.

Mine was $681 and my water bill was $260
Last month it’s as around $576.
Moved in November 1st and it’s been a shocker come these hotter months.
Jan $320
Feb 323
Mar 268
April 405
May 499
June 576
July 681
Do not want to see August or September
I texted my buddy earlier bitching about the electric cost and he said his shite was $1100 so now I don’t feel too bad.

Total bill for water, sewer, and electricity was $168.93 last cycle. Think that was about a $20 increase from the month before. My AC systems are new and I redid the weather seals and sweeps on the doors, made sure all the windows were well caulked, and pumped in a few bags of extra insulation into the attic. About 2,600 sq-ft HA with the thermostat set at 73.

have you cleaned the outdoor coils?

$280 this month. $260 last month. A little lower than last year this time. 1350 sq ft. Doesn’t stop running once afternoon hits and can’t hold the temp. I was expecting near $350 or more.

This is our first summer on Time of Use billing where kw/hr price is double from 3p-6p in the summer. This July was $360, last July was $390. But we are averaging $65 less per month.
House is 2300sqft with a pool and poolhouse. Pool pump runs from 8p-3p and the poolhouse mini split stays at 72° 24/7 since I don’t know how to program it.
Last August was $490 so this will be the telltale month.

Your units are old and probably heading north of nominal amperage, and if your dehumidifiers are portable and not fixed you're increasing the temperature of your house and cooling it at the same time. So your making your old units cycle more often.
I keep my house at 71 at year long, 3k sq ft runs about $380 at peak cost.

ATL metro area. Peaked at $230. 3 A/C units plus a pool pump that runs 8 hours/day. New windows have made a huge difference

I suspect if I got new ACs, my bill might drop. But I'm not replacing what I have because they are not broken, and it would take a very long time for me to recoup the "savings" per month.

Try using EnergyOgre dot com. There are now multiple services like it, which will shop your provider, even on a 60-90 day basis, if it saves you money (including term fees.)
Not sure if you can change providers in your area, but that was my bill a few years ago in a 5300 square foot house in Houston. AC at 71 downstairs, upstairs was 74 until the kids needed to head up for shower and bed when nobody was up there.

Yes. I do preventative maintenance with the HVAC company 1 x per year, and I just cleaned the coils myself about 2.5 months ago.

We use them in Spring. They put us on abundance energy.

You make a good case, here. My dehumidifiers are portable. I empty them twice a day, once very early in the morning, and later in the evening.
It does make a "temperature" feel like difference to me, however i do understand your point.
