The Swiss Army is based on America's Second Amendment. They train part-time for half of their lifetime. They have only a few professional trainers who get paid which means that the great majority of their military budget goes into arms and support. It's the only way that a small nation can field such a large force so quickly.

Their yearly oath starts out with "Never again will so few rule so many."

OK more than one reason

Hitler did not invade because attacking over 12,000 ft mountains is asking your army to go on a suicide mission. Plus you can't get tanks through them. Wehrmacht was designed for extremely fast movement over a mostly flat terrain. Germans learned in the Balkans that deploying whole army units into a mountainous area was less than optimal. The only reason he was in Yugoslavia was for strategic advantage and his army was bogged down there . Even Italy was a problem for them.....and us. Ditto Norway but he needed a place to attack Britain from and Norway was located in an advantageous spot for that.

Plus Switzerland in the middle of Europe was of no strategic value once Hitler overran France. No coastline. No borders on any threats

There were many reasons, but the primary reason was that the Swiss banks were giving Hitler what he wanted - a laundering operation for all the loot he was stealing from Jews that helped finance the war.

It helps that they arent part of the EU

I’d venture to say that the American Civilian Good Ole’ Bah Army is much bigger and there are buyout locations everywhere.

Maybe not all bunkers, but I’ll take the American badasses over Switzerland.

Finland's winter war was embarrassing for Russia although they did gain territory.
