I am a bit out of touch, but I just noticed that Florida Atlantic's head coach position is called "Hagerty Family Head Football Coach".

Is this something that other schools are doing?

The nerd schools have been doing it for a while. I'm sure it makes the alums feel like they're donating to the school and not just athletics and they get to brag about their name on some shite if you call it The Couch Family Defensive Backs coach.

I can't wait until LSU rolls out a head coach sponsored by Coca-Cola instead of some alum's family

Notre Dame does it even with position coaches.

quote:

Marcus Freeman, one of the rising young stars in the profession and architect of the highly-ranked Fighting Irish defense, today has been named the 30th Dick Corbett Head Football Coach at the University of Notre Dame.

A 37-year coaching veteran, Denbrock returned to the University of Notre Dame football program as the John and Bobbie Arlotta Family Offensive Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach in December of 2023.

quote:

The move also reunited Denbrock with Bob and Leslie Mohr Family Quarterbacks Coach Gino Guidugli,

quote:

Chris Ash, a veteran coach with experience in the college and professional ranks, will join the Notre Dame Football coaching staff as Bob Hinton Defensive Coordinator. The hiring will be effective at the conclusion of the University’s standard employment process.

It's terrible...but thanks to things like that, we can all make fun of it on the Boudreaux's Butt Paste Tiger Rant...

It might seem odd… but universities have been doing this with academic positions for ages.

It’s not unusual for a professor to be called something like the “Alfred E. Newman Professor of Political Science.”

Moving that practice to athletics is natural for a university.

A lot of schools do it and it’s just a dick measuring competition between donors.

I imagine that some talking heads are told to say the whole name when talking about a coach and some old guy saying "I'm not saying that shite"

The KFC "Original Recipe" Fried Chicken Offensive Line Coach. (Perfect fit for Sylvester Davis) Hey, all the practice reports are saying that we're still having trouble running rhe football, even with Caden Durham and Harlem Berry in the backfield.

Pretty sure UCLA has it for a lot of their programs too. I think we’ll have a cane’s logo on the field before that.
