Soliciting with a "No Soliciting" sign.

I hate having my door knocked on by people trying to sell me shite. So much so that I hung a sign next to the front door specifically declaring "No Solicitors".
Last night, about 8 o'clock, there's a knock at the front door. I can see through the curtains that someone is walking away immediately. I figured it was a delivery, so I opened the door and there's no package. There's a guy standing in the street, in front of my house, with a clipboard and some shirt with a logo / name tag.
I asked him if he saw the sign about "no soliciting" and he told me: "I'm not soliciting. I just wanted to tell you that I signed one of your neighbors up for pest control." I told him I wasn't interested in his services and then he asked me "Who do you use for pest control?"
I was flabbergasted and just went back inside. What kind of sales tactic is this? "It's ok to solicit because I'm no longer technically on your property and I'm trying to sell to you without being direct about it "
I felt like he needed his arse kicked but obviously wasn't worth it.

A no soliciting sign is like having “my home is protected by” whatever alarm company you have.
You think a burglary gives a frick what alarm company you have?
A solicitor is gonna hustle. Hustle= making money.
You don’t have to answer to answer the door

You sound like the type of guy who closes the refrigerator door with his hip

In these situations, just remember........ what would these guys do?

You actually answer your door when someone (that you don't know) knocks/rings? I haven't done that in years. Surveillance cams are a thing of beauty.

I hung a no soliciting sign and disconnected the doorbell. When I'm expecting guests, I open the door to greet them. Otherwise, beautiful silence.

8PM is not a good time to knock on doors to try to sell them something.. I don't think.. Unless they have data to show otherwise, but if someone knocks on my door at 8PM and I haven't communicated with anyone who told me they were coming over, my first thought is that its some type of emergency. Pretty much, when I realize its some shite bag trying to sell something, I will be pissed because I would be thinking its something a little bit more serious.. But in reality, if I see someone I don't know and especially if he looks like he is trying to sell shite, I am not answering.
I have a big window in my living room in which I can see anyone knocking on my door (unless shades are closed).. And I have been in my living room watching TV, some jackass knocked on my door.. It was one of those home security companies.. He knocked and could see I was in my livng room. I just let him knock. It would really be wasting time for me to answer. You don't owe anything to them. I want to get on some list that says "unlikely to answer".. But yeah, its really not hard to do.. There is nothing I want that someone has to try to sell to me.

I’m in sales. Those signs are bullshite and I don’t even notice them when I’m knocking doors. Now I’m also not bothering people at home and doing B2B sales.
I think the sales rep did good by overcoming the first objection but could have done better

No one wants anyone selling them anything at their door. It’s not 1965. Door to door salesmen are the worst. I prefer to frick with them and waste their time on the Ring camera

I’m talking about the ones on businesses but I would assume the ones on a home would have the same effect for them. I also am not selling door to door and just trying to gather info if I can’t find it on line.
You have to be smart and if I was a door to door pest control sales rep I’d be hitting every new construction house in my territory before people moved in.

In my line of work it’s strictly B2B sales so I wouldn’t ever be knocking at someone’s home.
However, if I turned away from every business’s door that had a no soliciting sign, then I wouldn’t ever never sale anything. Seems like 75% of the doors I walk thru have one.

Same question.
Solicitation is terrible. Why be that person? Sounds awful.

And you’ve never thought “wow, literally everyone I interact with professionally is annoyed by my presence?”

Yup
You won’t make it in the sales world if a little sign will make you not get out of the car.

I won't knock on a door trying to sell something after 7PM.
