According to the sheriff, the baby began getting “fussy,” so the great-grandmother and great aunt put him in one of the bedrooms and closed the door behind them. They then let their three dogs out of a cage to roam freely throughout the home.
Both women went into their kitchen to make tea and toast, but soon realized the bedroom door, where the child was, was open.
Chitwood said the great-grandmother walked in to check, and saw “their biggest dog,” a 130-lb. Great Dane and husky mix, “sitting next to Carter,” who “appears to be bleeding and he’s lifeless.”

Sounds like they didn't do anything wrong the way it's written. Baby was in a bedroom, they were still at the house, and the dog wasn't breed of peace.

Ok I'm going to be the a-hole here. HOW frickING STUPID CAN YOU BE?
1. They shouldn't have been able to care for a baby at all if they just throw it in a room if it cries.
2. Tea and toast was more important because if it weren't, they would have been damn sure to make sure those fricking dogs were locked up.
3. WHY THE frick would you leave a baby with relatives with dogs like that anyway?
Its horrible all around, but this is akin to leaving your kid in the back of a hot car. fricking pay attention. Unreal.

If it had been a pit bull it would’ve killed everyone in the house

When babies get fussy, they should be coddled to calm down.
I’d bet my next paycheck these people just didn’t like it crying and so they put the baby in a room and closed the door to not have to deal with it. Like some real assholes.

I don't get it. If the baby is fussy, you put him in a room and close the door? He's 5 months old. Did he need to fed? Changed? Rocked? Was he in a crib?
You have a 5 month old in the house with big dogs who are caged. Why let them out?
I know these women didn't intend for this to happen, but it seems negligent to me.

I’ve never had a dog that wasn’t loud AF mauling something as small as a lizard. A couple weeks ago my 40 lb dogs were raising a raucous. When I went outside I found them passing a bird back and forth.
…a Great Dane, quietly sitting next to a dead child? I’m not buying that.

I said in a recent thread that people need to take it to heart that they should never leave children alone around any dog. I don't care how well behaved you believe that dog is, do not leave it alone around your child, and always watch it closely. This is especially true for dogs you had prior to the child entering the home situation.

Leaving your baby with a couple of dumbass old people. What a mess.

WTH is "appears to be bleeding"? If the poor child was mauled by a damn 130 pound dog, he was probably bleeding profusely.

But the OT told me dogs are better than people. Why do they keep eating babies?

Nobody’s house cat ever killed their baby

Huskies are not a cute breed like people think. Those frickers can be mean and I hate them.

Small kids should never be near large dogs. I’ve seen labs just plow over a kid trying to play with them.
