Is "Block and Report Junk" Just Another Scam?

I easily get 5-7 spam calls a day. I hit block and report junk on every one of them. Delete the call and the accompanying voicemail.
Been doing this for a long time but, the calls seem to multiply. Is this feature actually telling them that it's a live number so, they can keep calling?

I’ve wondered that too. It seems I’ll get more calls after I “report” it. I’ve stopped reporting it

Same as "delete and report junk" for texts

It's gotten really bad lately. I'm getting 10 plus a day, all with New York area codes. I don't advocate for vigilante justice, but I'd love to see these shite stains impaled on a stake somewhere.

Those are rookie numbers. I easily get over 20 a day.
I've since removed my personal cell phone number from my business cards.
Every time I'd give my number to a salesperson who asked, the calls would increase.
There are apps for scanning business cards. Some of those app secretly send the phone numbers to robo callers.

They just call from other numbers. I get several a say and delete the vm.

I have long said: the first politician to solve this will never lose another election.
I'm for sending in Navy Seal kill squads to solve this shite.

I’ve gotten several texts lately telling me about charges to my PayPal account. Don’t have a PayPal account. I keep deleting and reporting as junk but they continue to roll in weekly. I’m guessing that it’s two Indians in New Delhi chumming.

Whenever I get a couple calls in a row, I throw on Do Not Disturb for a few hours and set my voicemail to "Arnold's Pizza Shop" slowed to 0.5x speed. Almost never get an accompanying voicemail, and the calls promptly stop for a couple weeks or so.

You need to go and actually block the number. This does nothing.

This.
Also stop wasting our tax dollars delivering mostly junk mail via usps.

Dang! I thought I was special. Evelyn from the West Coast also calls me 2-3 times a day from different area codes saying she just needs a few more details to approve my loan offer. It truly is out of control. Between that and all the local spoofed numbers I get all day and the occasional "Hello, can we chat?" rando text messages from Cambodian bot farms.

The easiest way to get them to stop is to answer every one and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s a win/win. They either hang up and don’t call back, or they convert and quit scamming. Haven’t had the latter yet, but I have actually had some decent conversations.

I guess to add some anecdotal evidence, I never report or block and I get maybe one spam call every few days.
I also do not answer unless I recognize the number. If it's someone that needs me they can leave a voicemail.

1. Get a new number
2. Do not set up voicemail
3. Do not answer any number you don't know
That is the only way you're going to beat them, and most people either can't or won't do it. As soon as they know a number is active, either by you answering a call or by an active voicemail answers, your number goes on the active list. After that, you will always have issues.
I average maybe one call a month and it is always from a different number. I never decline the call, just let it ring or mute it.

These actions "Validate" working numbers which then can be sold for a higher amount. Validated numbers are what scammers purchase. Don't answer the call, don't report it in any way even with your cell phone carrier. DO NOT enroll your number in the national "Do not call" lists. The Do not Call lists are the most highly sought after and sold validated cell or home phone number lists out there. Legit, responsible and mindful telephone marketers respect the list but the other 95% don't. Validated numbers are "coded" based on whether 1. the owner doesn't answer. 2. the owner answers but immediately hangs up. or 3. the owner answers and will engage the caller in conversation. Phone numbers coded #3 can be resold for a higher price. DO NOT engage the scammer in conversation especially if you are around Medicare age 65.
Trust me on this. I've worked for many years in an industry that must deal with these issues daily.

Legend made a good point that I forgot to mention. Rejecting the call also validates the number as a working number.
Just let it ring and/or mute it.

That won’t do anything either. They mask their calls and texts by using/stealing someone’s legitimate phone number. If it’s an actual company with one or two numbers, sure, then it works.
