For those of you that have the misery of being on call, does your employer pay you for waiting or only if actually on a call?

I think if you get paid hourly, labor law says you get paid to be on call. Not your full rate unless you get called. Salary? Nope

We get an hourly retainer for being on call. It’s only $2 an hour though. But we get time and a half if we get called in and they’ll pay us a minimum of 2 hours as long as we’re in for at least 15 minutes.
I got called in 3 times the last time I was on call. I probably worked an hour and a half total but got paid 6 hours.

Only if called but I get 4 hours even if I’m only there for 5 minutes.

I’m at the point of my career where I’m never ‘on call’, but as a young engineer I was salary. So yea, didn’t get paid for waiting around and damn sure didn’t get paid for getting called out and having to watch the Tech on call take his sweet arse time.

I’m on call 24/7/365.
Clients expect responses.

When on call we get an hour overtime a day and then a minimum of 2 hours for each call out.

I’m on salary and I’m the catch all on call if my employees don’t respond when being called. I don’t get paid for essentially always being on call. My employees who are also on salary get paid a small amount every week they are on call whether they get called or not.

My phone has been on since I got my first cell phone from Radiofone in the ‘90s.
It was a pager that was always on before that.
Part of the gig brah.
Don’t like it, go to work somewhere else.

My son is 10 and we get down on some call of duty.
Never imagined that it would get to that but i truly love when we get to play that together.

Is on-call the same thing as calling out?
If someone calls into work, that means they’re taking the day off
So confusing

Just for the callout but it is a minimum of 4 hours and it is time and a half no matter what has been worked previous that week.

Was salary, so, was not paid for time waiting or when on-site for however many hours I was there. Hourly, were paid time and a half for a minimum 4 hours on-site, zero for waiting. I and my call-out crew were on call for 1 weekend out of 6.
I was given a day off, typically the next Friday, when I was on-site for an extended time.
24/7/365 manufacturing is this way or something similar.
