Austin Riley has the Best Contract in Atlanta Braves History

I described it in an earler thread/post. He is the most UN-CLUTCH (if there is such a word) baseball player for the financial wealth he has been given. Too bad too, I bet he is a really good person. Congrats for him and pity on the poorly run Atlanta Braves Baseball Organization. I wish the person(s) responsible for their downfall are dealt with soon after this season is over.

Thanks for the catch. I am going to edit my post for that

I think the word you are looking for is INCLUCH,which, of course, we all know, is the oposite of ONCLUCH

Striking out soooooo many times with runners on base makes him some word for NOT CLUTCH.....whatever word that is

Hitting .316/.353/.463 with runners in scoring position this year. Pretty damn good

Struck out 4 times last night left 4 runners on base against the Rangers just the latest strikeout episode for the 232 million dollar man

Riley in high leverage situations in 2025
.217/.247/.293 in 97 PA
For his career
.248/.313/.418 in 607 PA
So relative to his career norms, he definitely under preforms in key situations
Also interesting with the bases loaded
.148/.235/.315 in 68 PA
That's basically comically unlucky, however he has struck out 20 times.

Why did you type a cliffhanger thread title? Just add "history" to the title, dumb arse.

You are presented with evidence of his hitting percentage for the year with runners in scoring position and your counter is one game? GTFO.
Riley was also clutch in the 2021 postseason which led to one of the two World Series championships Atlanta has had in the last 60 years, so he gets a pass from me even if he isn't putting up hall-of-fame stats under his current contract.

Aren’t Bruce Sutter’s heirs still getting paid by Braves?

Interesting. Let's watch again today. You think I have never watched Riley since he came up with the Braves? Are you his brother?

No. I was just appalled by your weak response when presented with evidence.

I would be willing to do that for half that salary.

He has gotten worse every year since he signed that contract. He looks like he is 15 miles deep in his own head every time he steps up to the plate with no signs of that changing. Local Atlanta radio host had a pretty good line to describe him: "You can see the sawdust coming off his batting gloves every time he hits."

Can we make this post the top one? All we need is in this and OP despite being a bumbling idiot iskinda correct based on the numbers.

I'm old enough to remember when the hapless Braves signed Nick Esasky to a record FA deal to complement their rising young talent and then he got "vertigo", quit, took his guaranteed money and never played again.
Ah, waiting for the closing credits on Andy Griffith reruns with Opie and Pa heading to the fishing hole so Ernie and the TBS crew could poke fun of another 100 loss team. Those were the bad ol' days.
