He regularly covers textile manufacturing, often highlighting legacy brands like Eddie Bauer, The North Face, and Clarks. Lately, he’s focused on why America fell behind in textiles and what’s being done to regain ground, while also showcasing high-quality American and small brands.

Bought Made in USA flag 2 months ago. Already fraying so had to switch back to 7 buck flag that lasts longer.

I'll pay more for American made but at least make it worth buying

These are all Yankee brands. Why isn’t there a good ol made in the USA clothing company from the south?

They were producing selvage denim I’m Vidalia for a few years. Used in a lot of products. Not sure why they closed.

My father in law (Rip) had a clothing factory that employeed close to 400 people. NAFTA killed it all. He eventually had to close the doors and had only meager saving when he died.

Origin makes some damn good quality stuff. You do pay the price, but it is top tier. Especially jeans and bjj gis, in my experience.

Funny. They told us NAFTA was going to be great for all three countries. Instead we ended up with a destroyed manufacturing base, the loonie tanked and sent a lot of Canadian sports teams to the US, and Mexico had hyperinflation and was taken over by cartels.

Not only did the work get outsourced overseas, but the functional equipment to do it. Jocko Willink explains this clearly when he describes how hard it was to get Origin jeans going. The old peeps that are still alive that know how to teach the younger generation their skills in textile manufacturing are still around—for a short while, but the machinery isn’t, the companies uprooted them and shipped them off with the jobs.

There use to be a Wrangler plant in Oneonta, AL, and just up Hwy 132, a Liberty overalls plant in Altoona. Those jobs got shipped to China in the 90s though. And, if you’re over the age of 30, odds a very good that most of the socks you wore prior to the late 1990s came from Fort Payne, AL. Those jobs also went to China.

I remember the textile companies near Auburn when I was a student there in the mid 80s.

All gone now....

AE was purchased by an outside firm around that time IIRC.

I have (7) pair right now I think.
