“Where I raise my family has nothing to do with my love and appreciation for our customers in California,” Snyder said in an Instagram video posted Monday night.

She also clarified that In-N-Out is not relocating its corporate headquarters to Tennessee or closing any California locations. Rather, In-N-Out is expanding with a new eastern territory office in Tennessee and moving its California headquarters from Irvine to Baldwin Park.

“I’m very proud of where In-N-Out started, and anyone who knows me, they know how often I talk about where we started and how our customers here in California brought us to where we are today,” she said, seemingly in response to those who voiced feelings of betrayal, given her criticism of the state that built In-N-Out.

Following online backlash, In-N-Out owner responds

Kind of an odd dynamic here.. this billionaire nepo baby obviously has contempt for California and it’s people as do many on this board.. so she is moving her family to TN- which is fine, but crazy that she doesnt expect any blowback since actions IMO usually speak louder than words .

Myself i love me an In n Out burger and i hate Whataburger- but then again i grew up partly in CA .

Old Whataburger was good. New hedge fund owned Whataburger is another story.

Staging their moves do the totalitarian state of CA doesn’t retaliate. HQ will move next 2 years.

...or she's just making a decision for her family. Could be beneficial with taxes, etc.

Still good, but I will say the prices have certainly gone up since the acquisition...

I can't remember the reasons given, but I saw a detailed video essay on why In-N-Out (unfortunately) would never branch out east of Texas, so I thought the rumored HQ move east was sudden & strange.

Hopefully, the "new eastern territory office in Tennessee" is a step towards serving burgers to the other half of the country. It definitely needs to be an option for hamburger lovers as it's consistently ranked up there with Five Guys, Shake Shack, Freddy's etc. as one of the best burger chains, if not the best.

Every store in the chain, wherever it may be is within 8 hours of a distribution center. Since all there products are fresh they need to establish that first.

Funny things is in and out never said they were moving hq to TN to begin with.

Because they were building a regional office to try to start expanding on the Eastern US based on the requirement that distribution has to be within 8 hours. Click bait articles pushed a bunch of false headlines, and places like the Poli board ate it up

Is this a situation where the ceremonial office stays in California, but the actual day-to-day shite goes down in Tennessee, at least until the California assets are strategically and sufficiently drained away?

What made In-N-Out so legendary was opening when there was no other option to get fresher, old style seeming burgers and fries. They would have been just as big all over the country if they'd opened locations 15 years ago.

Since then, a ton of competing places are now open in the east/south like the ones you mention.

Five Guys, Shake Shack along with tons of smaller "fresh" burger chains like Smashburger, Brgr etc are now all over the place and many other fast food burger places have probably added a few more slightly higher quality items.

Just from looking around where I live and travel often, it also seems the apex of that fresh burger frenzy has passed.
