Absolutely love the original. One of my favorite movies all time.

I wasn’t expecting too much from the sequel. It’s kind of a steaming pile of____. It has a few laughs, but they tried way too hard on too many things.

I mean I barely laughed at the trailer

This is going to be Coming to America 2 all over again. Nothing but fan service

Which unfortunately is usually how it goes.

Do they make fun of golf influencers? I thought that could be funny if Shooter and Happy had to team up against some hot golf whores.

I made it through, and it was about what I expected. It’s an Adam Sandler movie. He checked all his usual boxes, and didn’t try to do something different. It’s worth a watch.

I’m curious if anyone here believes that they would think this would be as funny as it was when you were a kid or your 20s.

Because 20+ years later, you’re a completely different person and a completely different sense of humor.

Of course none of this is going to be as funny anymore.

I wonder how many middle aged men back in the 90s found the original awful?

I still love Airplane and Spaceballs. My two favorite comedies. Both since i was like 6 or 7.
Watched both last week and watch both almost every year. Our humor changes but funny is still funny.

It's just a money grab. Adam isn't above it. I like this Autumn career for him, but this was the wrong vehicle, IMHO.

Frankly, Shooter McGavin deserved his own movie in the late 90s or early 00s. What a great villain. Hell, could have had his own Cobra Kai style show. Chris McDonald doesn't let the grass grow, though. 229 credits in IMDB going back to 1979 - nice mix of features and TV.

Yep

Original Happy Gilmore is still funny today.
As is the original Coming to America, Spaceballs, the first Naked Gun, Blazing Saddles, etc………

I’ve seen all of these as a kid, and still laugh at them as a 44 year old.

Finished it. It’s absolutely terrible and I predicted almost exactly what the plot would be after the first teaser trailer was shown last year. This may be the worst Adam Sandler movie to date. Jack & Jill may be slightly worse still

that's how nostalgia works. this movie would probably be funnier if you saw it as a kid, had fond memories of it, then watched it as an adult.

I rewatched the original last week because this brought it back to mind and it had been 10+ years since I had watched the original.

I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of it held up pretty well and still very quatable. Grandma/Ben Stiller at the nursing home was great. Shooter was great. Chubbs was great. Hockey stuff was still funny. Good one liners. I didn't crack up like when I was younger but it made me smile throughout.

I'm 39 for reference.
