He just signed a two-way deal with Charlotte. Still not quite sure why we let him walk.

Because this team doesn’t know what they are doing. I really wish I had a better answer for you. And that’s not being said because of this move. This move is a result of that being the case.

He played better than anyone else on the SL roster and that was without him shooting at a high percentage. Seems like we should've brought him back, just to have some more shooting off the bench.

More of a coaching thing. If Willie Green wanted him, he would’ve stayed. Can’t get rid of him soon enough

Because of the clueless idiots we have in the front office. They probably spent the whole SL drooling over Queen and did not see what Stevie Wonder could see, that Reeves deserved a 2-way so much more than Quinones.

After we cut him loose from his regular contract, he must have wanted to go elsewhere rather than come back on a two-way with us.

Why does this team bother using second round draft picks?

Should have unloaded Hawkins for nothing and kept Reeves. Cheap contract that can do more than Hawkins already. For a time that is cash strapped, that seemed like a no-brainer move to me.

I get both sides of that argument. On the surface, you are correct.

But there's also the fact that Reeves will, at best, become a decent rotation player, and Hawk still has a much higher ceiling. Even if it appears to us that he isn't going to get anywhere near that ceiling, I can still understand betting on the idea that Hawk will put everything together this season.

Neither plays defense but one has a chronic back condition that will never improve and is heralded as a shooter but the other, cheaper guy is so much better shooting and scoring in general. Typical Pelican bullshite move while Jordan Hawkins keeps a spot on this team somehow.

Nothing will change until more pressure is brought to bear on Gayle to sell the team.

He was literally just signed by another team.

y'all really freaking out about a guy who, at best would have been our 6th or 7th guy off the bench, who'd likely only see any run in blowouts??

man, i just can't even get on this level of stupidity, but whatever...

After 6 years of Griff and Z, this board fetishizes losing basketball players. We literally just saw a 20 game stretch of Reeves being a main character on this team and it resulted in 25 point blowouts 85% of the time. I think we actually have a dumber fanbase than the Lakers at this point.

Do you actually not know what a two-way contract is?

Look, folks, there's zero doubt that, after we ended Antonio's regular contract, we offered him a two-way.

It's a real challenge for teams to draft in the second round (especially after the first ten picks or so), because from the players' standpoint, there's not a huge advantage between getting drafted in the 2nd round, and going to a team on a UDFA deal. Players' agents in many cases are telling teams not to draft their client, etc., because they want to put their clients in a position to be successful.

As a result, teams show agents and players that their team is a good place for 2nd-round picks to grow and succeed. It's not unlike college recruiting. Under Griff, we did an excellent job of this. We took care of our guys and developed a track record or developing 2nd-round picks and UDFAs.

So that's why I'm extremely confident that we offered Antonio Reeves a two-way contract. Almost certainly, after we terminated his regular contract, he decided that he wanted to go somewhere else.

Again, though, we did our best to take care of him by giving him a spot on our Summer League team to showcase his talents, even though we knew he was going elsewhere, because it's important to show that we take care of our guys.

It also means he can be poached from Charlotte for an actual NBA contract. He could still technically come back here.

That’s troubling. We take care of Reeves as you described but once again aren’t the choice destination in a 2 way. You have to ask why and wonder if the region is a real drag.

I'm not "freaking out" and don't question my intelligence.

The Pelicans are a franchise notorious for ducking the tax and being hampered by cash restraint. So, when they have opportunity to have depth pieces even if they are far down the bench for cheap and have some decent production, even in blowouts, we should cultivate that and develop that player. For all of us, he's done more of what we thought Hawkins was going to be and he was a 13th overall pick.

The really good teams find those guys like that because it helps their salary cap and roster construction. We could have traded Hawk, saved 3m (compared to Reeves salary) and maybe gotten another, better fitting player at another position of need. That's the argument.
