because… get this…they climbed into the pool.
quote:

Millions of above-ground pools are being recalled after at least nine children have drowned in them, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recalled pools are 48-inch and taller above-ground pools that use compression straps. These straps wrap around the pool on the outside of the supporting poles, and may create a foothold, allowing a child to access the pool and drown.

Sad. But parents are the ones who need to be recalled.

I don’t disagree with your sentiment. But that’s a design flaw that could provide dangerous for kids (obviously), so the recall makes sense from a business standpoint.

Wouldn't the fence prevent access to the pool?

I’m still pissed they banned rock-n-plays because some absolute retards left their infants in them all day and they suffocated

Exactly. All you have to do is fall in.

So we need to recall gravity.

This. Found a contraband one for our reflux baby and it was a Godsend. For the life of me can’t figure out why you recall something because parents did something stupid. By that logic, take all baby blankets, toys, etc. Anything can cause injury with negligence.

Might as well ban mobile homes, too. Don’t most above ground pools owners live in mobile homes???

I think his point was a child doesn't need to climb straps to fall in an inground pool and drown.

Edit..

I see you've already been informed.

“ On April 12, 2019, at the time the original recall was announced, over 30 fatalities were reported to have occurred in the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances.”

Key word: unrestrained. And parents not watching. My grandson has something similar (he’s outgrown it now) and he was never left unsupervised or allowed to sleep in it. I think there’s a 2 hour window of safety in anything an infant “sits” in bc of suffocation. Including car seats.

Some of these pools have been in production for nearly 20 years, and the deaths date back nearly that long.

I understand the company issuing the recall, these aren't legit above ground pools. These are Walmart Intex pools that are basically a step above inflatable.

Insurance rule is an in ground pool has to have a fence around the pool to prevent accidentally falling in. Above ground pools can have a fence, or a ladder mechanism that folds the ladder up. No ladder, no entry to pool. Can totally see why they would issue the recall since they have basically created entry as part of the pool design.

You can't even have the pool pump on a legit above ground pool within 6 feet of the pool itself for this exact reason.

Well, hell yeah. Ban assault pools and take them away from all of the trailer dwellers.
